2023-04-12media: Fix indentation issues introduced by subdev-wide state structLaurent Pinchart
Commit 0d346d2a6f54 ("media: v4l2-subdev: add subdev-wide state struct") applied a large media tree-wide change produced by coccinelle. It was so large that a set of identical indentation issues went unnoticed during review. Fix them. While at it, and because it's easy to review both changes together, add a trailing comma for the last (and only) struct member initialization of the related structures, to avoid future changes should new fields need to be initialized. 2023-04-11media: atmel-isi: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. 2022-11-25media: atmel: atmel-isc: move to stagingEugen Hristev
The Atmel ISC driver is not compliant with media controller specification. In order to evolve this driver, it has to move to media controller, to support enhanced features and future products which embed it. The move to media controller involves several changes which are not backwards compatible with the current usability of the driver. The best example is the way the format is propagated from the top video driver /dev/videoX down to the sensor. In a simple configuration sensor ==> isc , the isc just calls subdev s_fmt and controls the sensor directly. This is achieved by having a lot of code inside the driver that will query the subdev at probe time and make a list of formats which are usable. Basically the user has nothing to configure, as the isc will handle everything at the top level. This is an easy way to capture, but also comes with the drawback of lack of flexibility. In a more complicated pipeline sensor ==> controller 1 ==> controller 2 ==> isc this will not be achievable, as controller 1 and controller 2 might be media-controller configurable, and will not propagate the formats down to the sensor. After discussions with the media maintainers, the decision is to move Atmel ISC to staging as-is, to keep the Kconfig symbols and the users to the driver in staging. Thus, all the existing users of the non media-controller paradigm will continue to be happy and use the old config way. The new driver was added in the media subsystem with a different symbol, with the conversion to media controller done, and new users of the driver will be able to use all the new features. This patch is merely a file move to staging, not affecting any of the users. The exported symbols had to be renamed to atmel_* to avoid duplication with the new Microchip ISC driver. 2022-11-25media: atmel: move microchip_csi2dc to dedicated microchip platformEugen Hristev
The Atmel ISC will be moved to staging thus the atmel platform will only have the ISI driver. The new media-controller converted ISC driver will be placed inside a dedicated microchip platform directory. It is then natural to have the microchip-csi2dc moved to this new platform directory. The next step is to add the Microchip ISC driver to the new platform directory and reside together with the Microchip CSI2DC driver. configured When attempting to change the white balance (WB) ctrls before starting streaming, e.g.: # v4l2-ctl -L User Controls .. blue_component_gain 0x009819c1 (int) : min=0 max=8191 step=1 default=512 value=512 flags=slider .. # v4l2-ctl --set-ctrl=blue_component_gain=500 # v4l2-ctl -L .. blue_component_gain 0x009819c1 (int) : min=0 max=8191 step=1 default=512 value=500 flags=slider .. These will not be written to the internal data struct and will not be written to the WB hardware module. Thus, after starting streaming, they will be reset to default: # v4l2-ctl -L .. blue_component_gain 0x009819c1 (int) : min=0 max=8191 step=1 default=512 value=512 flags=slider .. It does not make much sense to not be able to configure the WB controls at all times. Even if the sensor would not be RAW Bayer (and in this case the WB module is unavailable), the user could configure the ISC itself, as the ISC should not care about the sensor format. Thus, when WB module is available (if the sensor changes format e.g.) it will be already configured as be user's desires. In consequence, remove the check in isc_s_awb_ctrl that will return if ISC does not know the sensor format. The cropping configuration of the Parallel Front Engine (PFE) can be done just once when the streaming starts. The ISC configuration is in place and will not be changed while streaming. 2022-05-13media: atmel: atmel-isc-base: use mutex to lock awb workq from streamingEugen Hristev
The AWB workqueue runs in a kernel thread and needs to be synchronized w.r.t. the streaming status. It is possible that streaming is stopped while the AWB workq is running. In this case it is likely that the check for vb2_start_streaming_called is done at one point in time, but the AWB computations are done later, including a call to isc_update_profile, which requires streaming to be started. Thus , isc_update_profile will fail if during this operation sequence the streaming was stopped. To solve this issue, a mutex is added, that will serialize the awb work and streaming stopping, with the mention that either streaming is stopped completely including termination of the last frame is done, and after that the AWB work can check stream status and stop; either first AWB work is completed and after that the streaming can stop correctly. The awb spin lock cannot be used since this spinlock is taken in the same context and using it in the stop streaming will result in a recursion BUG. 2022-05-13media: atmel: atmel-isc-base: use streaming status when queueing buffersEugen Hristev
During experiments with libcamera, it looks like vb2_is_streaming returns true before our start streaming is called. Order of operations is streamon -> queue -> start_streaming ISC would have started the DMA immediately when a buffer is being added to the vbqueue if the queue is streaming. It is more safe to start the DMA after the start streaming of the driver is called. Thus, even if vb2queue is streaming, add the buffer to the dma queue of the driver instead of actually starting the DMA process, if the start streaming has not been called yet. Tho achieve this, we have to use vb2_start_streaming_called instead of vb2_is_streaming. 2022-03-18media: Kconfig: cleanup VIDEO_DEV dependenciesMauro Carvalho Chehab
media Kconfig has two entries associated to V4L API: VIDEO_DEV and VIDEO_V4L2. On Kernel 2.6.x, there were two V4L APIs, each one with its own flag. VIDEO_DEV were meant to: 1) enable Video4Linux and make its Kconfig options to appear; 2) it makes the Kernel build the V4L core. while VIDEO_V4L2 where used to distinguish between drivers that implement the newer API and drivers that implemented the former one. With time, such meaning changed, specially after the removal of all V4L version 1 drivers. At the current implementation, VIDEO_DEV only does (1): it enables the media options related to V4L, that now has: menu "Video4Linux options" visible if VIDEO_DEV source "drivers/media/v4l2-core/Kconfig" endmenu but it doesn't affect anymore the V4L core drivers. The rationale is that the V4L2 core has a "soft" dependency at the I2C bus, and now requires to select a number of other Kconfig options: config VIDEO_V4L2 tristate depends on (I2C || I2C=n) && VIDEO_DEV select RATIONAL select VIDEOBUF2_V4L2 if VIDEOBUF2_CORE default (I2C || I2C=n) && VIDEO_DEV In the past, merging them would be tricky, but it seems that it is now possible to merge those symbols, in order to simplify V4L dependencies. Let's keep VIDEO_DEV, as this one is used on some make *defconfig configurations. The better seems to organize the drivers per manufacturer, as other Kernel subsystems are doing. As a preparation for such purpose, get rid of menuconfigs, moving the per-menu dependencies to be at the driver-specifig config entires. This shoud give flexibility to reorganize the platform drivers per manufacturer and re-sort them. The bytesperline field of the pixfmt should be only for the first plane in case of planar formats like YUV420 or YUV422. The bytesperline is used by the driver to compute the framesize. We have to report a different bpp (bytes per pixel) to v4l2 in bytesperline than the actual bpp. For example for YUV420, the real bpp is 12, but the first plane has only 8 bpp. Thus we report a bytesperline 8*width instead of 12*width. Thus, moved this clock enabling after pm_runtime_idle is called. The ISPCK is required only for sama5d2 type of ISC. Thus, add a bool inside the isc struct that is platform dependent. For the sama7g5-isc, the enabling of the ISPCK is wrong and does not make sense. Removed it from the sama7g5 probe. In sama7g5-isc, there is only one clock, the MCK, which also clocks the internal pipeline of the ISC. Building VIDEO_ATMEL_ISC as module and VIDEO_ATMEL_XISC as built-in (or viceversa) causes build errors: or1k-linux-ld: drivers/media/platform/atmel/atmel-isc-base.o: in function `isc_async_complete': atmel-isc-base.c:(.text+0x40d0): undefined reference to `__this_module' or1k-linux-ld: atmel-isc-base.c:(.text+0x40f0): undefined reference to `__this_module' or1k-linux-ld: drivers/media/platform/atmel/atmel-isc-base.o:(.rodata+0x390): undefined reference to `__this_module' or1k-linux-ld: drivers/media/platform/atmel/atmel-isc-base.o:(__param+0x4): undefined reference to `__this_module' or1k-linux-ld: drivers/media/platform/atmel/atmel-isc-base.o:(__param+0x18): undefined reference to `__this_module' This is caused by the file atmel-isc-base.c which is common code between the two drivers. The solution is to create another Kconfig symbol that is automatically selected and generates the module atmel-isc-base.ko. This module can be loaded when both drivers are modules, or built-in when at least one of them is built-in. 2021-07-12media: atmel: atmel-sama5d2-isc: fix YUYV formatEugen Hristev
SAMA5D2 does not have the YCYC field for the RLP (rounding, limiting, packaging) module. The YCYC field is supposed to work with interleaved YUV formats like YUYV. In SAMA5D2, we have to use YYCC field, which is used for both planar formats like YUV420 and interleaved formats like YUYV. Fix the according rlp callback to replace the generic YCYC field (which makes more sense from a logical point of view) with the required YYCC field. 2021-06-17media: v4l2-subdev: add subdev-wide state structTomi Valkeinen
We have 'struct v4l2_subdev_pad_config' which contains configuration for a single pad used for the TRY functionality, and an array of those structs is passed to various v4l2_subdev_pad_ops. I was working on subdev internal routing between pads, and realized that there's no way to add TRY functionality for routes, which is not pad specific configuration. Adding a separate struct for try-route config wouldn't work either, as e.g. set-fmt needs to know the try-route configuration to propagate the settings. This patch adds a new struct, 'struct v4l2_subdev_state' (which at the moment only contains the v4l2_subdev_pad_config array) and the new struct is used in most of the places where v4l2_subdev_pad_config was used. All v4l2_subdev_pad_ops functions taking v4l2_subdev_pad_config are changed to instead take v4l2_subdev_state. The changes to drivers/media/v4l2-core/v4l2-subdev.c and include/media/v4l2-subdev.h were written by hand, and all the driver changes were done with the semantic patch below. The spatch needs to be applied to a select list of directories. I used the following shell commands to apply the spatch: dirs="drivers/media/i2c drivers/media/platform drivers/media/usb drivers/media/test-drivers/vimc drivers/media/pci drivers/staging/media" for dir in $dirs; do spatch -j8 --dir --include-headers --no-show-diff --in-place --sp-file v4l2-subdev-state.cocci $dir; done Note that Coccinelle chokes on a few drivers (gcc extensions?). With minor changes we can make Coccinelle run fine, and these changes can be reverted after spatch.
