Report NVM version numbers (both detected and expected) when a mismatch b/w
driver and firmware is detected. This provides more useful information
about which NVM version the driver expects, rather than requiring manual
code inspection.

The driver allocates a cmd_buf array in addition to the desc_buf array.
This array stores an ice_sq_cd command details structure for each entry in
the control queue ring.
The contents of the structure are copied from the value passed in via
ice_sq_send_cmd, and include only a pointer to storage for the write back
descriptor contents.
Originally this array was intended to support asynchronous completion
including features such as a callback function. This support was never
implemented. All that exists today is needless copying and resetting of a
cmd_buf array that is otherwise functionally unused.
Since we do not plan to implement asynchronous completions, drop this
unnecessary memory and logic. This saves memory for each control queue, and
avoids the pointless copying and memset.

Many comments in ice_controlq.c use the term "Admin queue" despite the code
being intended for arbitrary control queues, not just the Admin queue.
Reword the comments to make it clear that this code is the generic control
queue logic that is shared by all of the control queues, and is not
specific to the Admin queue.

The ice_debug_cq() function is called to generate a debug log of control
queue messages both sent and received. It currently does this over a
potential total of 6 different printk invocations.
The main logic prints over 4 calls to ice_debug():
1. The metadata including opcode, flags, datalength and return value.
2. The cookie in the descriptor.
3. The parameter values.
4. The address for the databuffer.
In addition, if the descriptor has a data buffer, it can be logged with two
additional prints:
5. A message indicating the start of the data buffer.
6. The actual data buffer, printed using print_hex_dump_debug.
This can lead to trouble in the event that two different PFs are logging
messages. The messages become intermixed and it may not be possible to
determine which part of the output belongs to which control queue message.
To fix this, it needs to be possible to unambiguously determine which
messages belong together. This is trivial for the messages that comprise
the main printing. Combine them together into a single invocation of
ice_debug().
The message containing a hex-dump of the data buffer is a bit more
complicated. This is printed separately as part of print_hex_dump_debug.
This function takes a prefix, which is currently always set to
KBUILD_MODNAME. Extend this prefix to include the buffer address for the
databuffer, which is printed as part of the main print, and which is
guaranteed to be unique for each buffer.
Refactor the ice_debug_array(), introducing an ice_debug_array_w_prefix().
Build the prefix by combining KBUILD_MODNAME with the databuffer address
using snprintf().
These changes make it possible to unambiguously determine what data belongs
to what control queue message.

Currently, debug logs are unnecessarily cluttered with the contents of
command data buffers even if the receiver of that command (i.e. FW or MBX)
are not told to read the buffer. Change to only log command data buffers
when the RD flag (indicates receiver needs to read the buffer) is set.
Continue to log response data buffer when the returned datalen is non-zero.
Also, rename a local variable to reflect what is in the hardware
specification and how it is used elsewhere in the code, use local variables
instead of duplicating endian conversions unnecessarily and remove an
unnecessary assignment.

The ice_debug_cq function is called to print debug data for a control queue
descriptor in multiple places. This includes both before we send a message
on a transmit queue, after the writeback completion of a message on the
transmit queue, and when we receive a message on a receive queue.
This function does not include data about *which* control queue the message
is on, nor whether it was what we sent to the queue or what we received
from the queue.
Modify ice_debug_cq to take two extra parameters, a pointer to the control
queue and a boolean indicating if this was a response or a command. Improve
the debug messages by replacing "CQ CMD" with a string indicating which
specific control queue (based on cq->qtype) and whether this was a command
sent by the PF or a response from the queue.
This helps make the log output easier to understand and consume when
debugging.

The ice_sq_done function is used to check the control queue head register
and determine whether or not the control queue processing is done. This
function is called in a loop checking against jiffies for a specified
timeout.
The pattern of reading a register in a loop until a condition is true or a
timeout is reached is a relatively common pattern. In fact, the kernel
provides a read_poll_timeout function implementing this behavior in
<linux/iopoll.h>
Use of read_poll_timeout is preferred over directly coding these loops.
However, using it in the ice driver is a bit more difficult because of the
rd32 wrapper. Implement a rd32_poll_timeout wrapper based on
read_poll_timeout.
Refactor ice_sq_done to use rd32_poll_timeout, replacing the loop calling
ice_sq_done in ice_sq_send_cmd. This simplifies the logic down to a single
ice_sq_done() call.
The implementation of rd32_poll_timeout uses microseconds for its timeout
value, so update the CQ timeout macros used to be specified in microseconds
units as well instead of using HZ for jiffies.

Admin queue command for shutdown AQ contains a flag to indicate driver
unload. However, the flag is always set in the driver, even for resets. It
can cause the firmware to consider driver as unloaded once the PF reset is
triggered on all ports of device, which could lead to unexpected results.
Add an additional function parameter to functions that shutdown AQ,
indicating whether the driver is actually unloading.

Allow the driver to be compatible with different FW API versions based
on the device's MAC type. Currently, E810 is only compatible with one
FW API version. Now the driver can be compatible with different FW API
versions for both E810 and E830. For example, E810 FW API version is
1.5.0 and E830 is 1.7.0.

E800 series devices have a couple of quirks:
1. Sideband control queues are not supported
2. The registers that the driver needs to program for the "Precision
Time Protocol (PTP)" feature are different for E800 series devices
compared to other devices supported by this driver.
Both these require conditional logic based on the underlying device we
are dealing with.
The function ice_is_sbq_supported added by commit 8f5ee3c477a8
("ice: add support for sideband messages") addresses (1).
The same function can be used to address (2) as well
but this just looks weird readability wise in cases that have nothing
to do with sideband control queues:

For these cases, the function ice_is_generic_mac introduced by this
patch communicates the idea/intention better. Also rework
ice_is_sbq_supported to use this new function.
As side-band queue is supported for E825C devices, it's mac_type is
considered as generic mac_type.

The ice_sq_send_cmd() function is used to send messages to the control
queues used to communicate with firmware, virtual functions, and even some
hardware.
When sending a control queue message, the driver is designed to
synchronously wait for a response from the queue. Currently it waits
between checks for 100 to 150 microseconds.
Commit f86d6f9c49f6 ("ice: sleep, don't busy-wait, for
ICE_CTL_Q_SQ_CMD_TIMEOUT") did recently change the behavior from an
unnecessary delay into a sleep which is a significant improvement over the
old behavior of polling using udelay.
Because of the nature of PCIe transactions, the hardware won't be informed
about a new message until the write to the tail register posts. This is
only guaranteed to occur at the next register read. In ice_sq_send_cmd(),
this happens at the ice_sq_done() call. Because of this, the driver
essentially forces a minimum of one full wait time regardless of how fast
the response is.
For the hardware-based sideband queue, this is especially slow. It is
expected that the hardware will respond within 2 or 3 microseconds, an
order of magnitude faster than the 100-150 microsecond sleep.
Allow such fast completions to occur without delay by introducing a small 5
microsecond delay first before entering the sleeping timeout loop. Ensure
the tail write has been posted by using ice_flush(hw) first.
While at it, lets also remove the ICE_CTL_Q_SQ_CMD_USEC macro as it
obscures the sleep time in the inner loop. It was likely introduced to
avoid "magic numbers", but in practice sleep and delay values are easier to
read and understand when using actual numbers instead of a named constant.
This change should allow the fast hardware based control queue messages to
complete quickly without delay, while slower firmware queue response times
will sleep while waiting for the response.

The driver polls for ice_sq_done() with a 100 µs period for up to 1 s
and it uses udelay to do that.
Let's use usleep_range instead. We know sleeping is allowed here,
because we're holding a mutex (cq->sq_lock). To preserve the total
max waiting time, measure the timeout in jiffies.
ICE_CTL_Q_SQ_CMD_TIMEOUT is used also in ice_release_res(), but there
the polling period is 1 ms (i.e. 10 times longer). Since the timeout was
expressed in terms of the number of loops, the total timeout in this
function is 10 s. I do not know if this is intentional. This patch keeps
it.
The patch lowers the CPU usage of the ice-gnss-<dev_name> kernel thread
on my system from ~8 % to less than 1 %.
I received a report of high CPU usage with ptp4l where the busy-waiting
in ice_sq_send_cmd dominated the profile. This patch has been tested in
that usecase too and it made a huge improvement there.

In order to support certain device features, including enabling the PTP
hardware clock, the ice driver needs to control some registers on the
device PHY.
These registers are accessed by sending sideband messages. For some
hardware, these messages must be sent over the device admin queue, while
other hardware has a dedicated control queue for the sideband messages.
Add the neighbor device message structure for sending a message to the
neighboring device. Where supported, initialize the sideband control
queue and handle cleanup.
Add a wrapper function for sending sideband control queue messages that
read or write a neighboring device register.
Because some devices send sideband messages over the AdminQ, also
increase the length of the admin queue to allow more messages to be
queued up. This is important because the sideband messages add
additional pressure on the AQ usage.
This support will be used in following patches to enable support for
CONFIG_1588_PTP_CLOCK.

The only time you can ever have a rq_last_status is if
a firmware event was somehow reporting a status on the receive
queue, which are generally firmware initiated events or
mailbox messages from a VF. Mostly this struct member was unused.
Fix this problem by still printing the value of the field in a debug
print, but don't store the value forever in a struct, potentially
creating opportunities for callers to use the wrong struct member.

Retry sending some AQ commands, as result of EBUSY AQ error.

This change follows the latest guidelines from HW team. It is
better to retry the same AQ command several times, as the result

A race condition between FW and SW can occur between admin queue setup and
the first command sent. A link event may occur and FW attempts to notify a
non-existent queue. FW will set the critical error bit and disable the
queue. When this happens retry queue setup.

Change min() macros to min_t() which has compare type specified and it
helps avoid precision loss.
In some cases there was precision loss during calls or assignments.
Some fields in structs were unnecessarily large and gave multiple
warnings.
There were also some minor type differences which are now fixed as well as
some cases where a simple cast was needed.
Callers were were passing data that is a u16 to
ice_sched_cfg_node_bw_alloc() but the function was truncating that to a u8.
Fix that by changing the function to take a u16.

ice_debug_cq is passed a mask which is always ICE_DBG_AQ_CMD. Modify this
function, removing the mask parameter entirely, and directly use the more
appropriate ICE_DBG_AQ_DESC and ICE_DBG_AQ_DESC_BUF.
The function is only called from ice_controlq.c, and has no
other callers outside of that file. Move it and mark it static to avoid
namespace pollution.

Shorten the delay for SQ responses, but increase the number of loops.
Max delay time is unchanged, but some operations complete much more
quickly.
In the process, add a new define to make the delay count and delay time
more explicit. Add comments to make things more explicit.
This fixes a problem with VF resets failing on with many VFs.

The ice_init_all_ctrlq and ice_shutdown_all_ctrlq functions create and
destroy the locks used to protect the send and receive process of each
control queue.
This is problematic, as the driver may use these functions to shutdown
and re-initialize the control queues at run time. For example, it may do
this in response to a device reset.
If the driver failed to recover from a reset, it might leave the control
queues offline. In this case, the locks will no longer be initialized.
A later call to ice_sq_send_cmd will then attempt to acquire a lock that
has been destroyed.
It is incorrect behavior to access a lock that has been destroyed.
Indeed, ice_aq_send_cmd already tries to avoid accessing an offline
control queue, but the check occurs inside the lock.
The root of the problem is that the locks are destroyed at run time.
Modify ice_init_all_ctrlq and ice_shutdown_all_ctrlq such that they no
longer create or destroy the locks.
Introduce new functions, ice_create_all_ctrlq and ice_destroy_all_ctrlq.
Call these functions in ice_init_hw and ice_deinit_hw.
Now, the control queue locks will remain valid for the life of the
driver, and will not be destroyed until the driver unloads.
This also allows removing a duplicate check of the sq.count and
rq.count values when shutting down the controlqs. The ice_shutdown_ctrlq
function already checks this value under the lock. Previously
commit dec64ff10ed9 ("ice: use [sr]q.count when checking if queue is
initialized") needed this check to happen outside the lock, because it
prevented duplicate attempts at destroying the locks.
The driver may now safely use ice_init_all_ctrlq and
ice_shutdown_all_ctrlq while handling reset events, without causing the
locks to be invalid.

1. Assigning the register offset and mask values contains duplicate code
that can easily be replaced with a macro.
2. Separate functions for freeing send queue and receive queue rings are
not needed; replace with a single function that uses a pointer to the
struct ice_ctl_q_ring structure as a parameter instead of a pointer to
the struct ice_ctl_q_info structure.
3. Initializing register settings for both send queue and receive queue
contains duplicate code that can easily be replaced with a helper
function.
4. Separate functions for freeing send queue and receive queue buffers are
not needed; duplicate code can easily be replaced with a macro.

Mailbox queue is a type of control queue that's used for communication
between PF and VF. This patch adds code to initialize, configure and
use mailbox queues.
This patch also adds support to detect and parse SR-IOV capabilities
returned by the hardware.

We have MAX_FW_API_VER_BRANCH, MAX_FW_API_VER_MAJOR, and
MAX_FW_API_VER_MINOR that we use in ice_controlq.h to test when a
firmware version is newer than expected. This is currently tested by
comparing each field separately. Thus, we compare the branch field
against the MAX_FW_API_VER_BRANCH, and so forth.
This means that currently, if we suppose that the max firmware version
is defined as 0.2.1, i.e.
Then firmware 0.1.3 will fail to load. This is because the minor version
3 is greater than the max minor version 1.
This is not intuitive, because of the notion that increasing the major
firmware version to 2 should mean any firmware version with a major
version is less than 2 should be considered older than 2...
In order to allow both 0.2.1 and 0.1.3 to load, you would have to define
the "max" firmware version as 0.2.3.. It is possible that such
a firmware version doesn't even exist yet!
Fix this by replacing the current logic with an updated check that
behaves as follows:
First, we check the major version. If it is greater than the expected
version, then we prevent driver load. Additionally, a warning message is
logged to indicate to the system administrator that they need to update
their driver. This is now the only case where the driver will refuse to
load.
Second, if the major version is less than the expected version, we log
an information message indicating the NVM should be updated.
Third, if the major version is exact, we'll then check the minor
version. If the minor version is more than two versions less than
expected, we log an information message indicating the NVM should be
updated. If it is more than two versions greater than the expected
version, we log an information message that the driver should be
updated.
To support this, the ice_aq_ver_check function needs its signature
updated to pass the HW structure. Since we now pass this structure,
there is no need to pass the firmware API versions separately.

When shutting down the controlqs, we check if they are initialized
before we shut them down and destroy the lock. This is important, as it
prevents attempts to access the lock of an already shutdown queue.
Unfortunately, we checked rq.head and sq.head as the value to determine
if the queue was initialized. This doesn't work, because head is not
reset when the queue is shutdown. In some flows, the adminq will have
already been shut down prior to calling ice_shutdown_all_ctrlqs. This
can result in a crash due to attempting to access the already destroyed
mutex.
Fix this by using rq.count and sq.count instead. Indeed, ice_shutdown_sq
and ice_shutdown_rq already indicate that this is the value we should be
using to determine of the queue was initialized.

Once reset is issued, the driver loses all control queue interfaces.
Exercising control queue operations during reset is incorrect and
may result in long timeouts.
This patch introduces a new field 'reset_ongoing' in the hw structure.
This is set to 1 by the core driver when it receives a reset interrupt.
ice_sq_send_cmd checks reset_ongoing before actually issuing the control
queue operation. If a reset is in progress, it returns a soft error code
(ICE_ERR_RESET_PENDING) to the caller. The caller may or may not have to
take any action based on this return. Once the driver knows that the
reset is done, it has to set reset_ongoing back to 0. This will allow
control queue operations to be posted to the hardware again.
This "bail out" logic was specifically added to ice_sq_send_cmd (which
is pretty low level function) so that we have one solution in one place
that applies to all types of control queues.

This patch is a consolidation of multiple bug fixes for control queue
processing.
1) In ice_clean_adminq_subtask() remove unnecessary reads/writes to
registers. The bits PFINT_FW_CTL, PFINT_MBX_CTL and PFINT_SB_CTL
are not set when an interrupt arrives, which means that clearing them
again can be omitted.
2) Get an accurate value in "pending" by re-reading the control queue
head register from the hardware.
3) Fix a corner case involving lost control queue messages by checking
for new control messages (using ice_ctrlq_pending) before exiting the
cleanup routine.

Clean control queues only when they are initialized. One of the ways to
validate if the basic initialization is done is by checking value of
cq->sq.head and cq->rq.head variables that specify the register address.
This patch adds a check to avoid NULL pointer dereference crash when tried
to shutdown uninitialized control queue.

Prior to this commit, the rq_last_status was only set when hardware
responded with an error. This leads to rq_last_status being invalid
in the future when hardware eventually responds without error. This
commit resolves the issue by unconditionally setting rq_last_status
with the value returned in the descriptor.

This patch continues the initialization flow as follows:
1) Allocate and initialize necessary fields (like vsi, num_alloc_vsi,
irq_tracker, etc) in the ice_pf instance.
2) Setup the miscellaneous interrupt handler. This also known as the
"other interrupt causes" (OIC) handler and is used to handle non
hotpath interrupts (like control queue events, link events,
exceptions, etc.
3) Implement a background task to process admin queue receive (ARQ)
events received by the driver.

A control queue is a hardware interface which is used by the driver
to interact with other subsystems (like firmware, PHY, etc.). It is
implemented as a producer-consumer ring. More specifically, an
"admin queue" is a type of control queue used to interact with the
firmware.
This patch introduces data structures and functions to initialize
and teardown control/admin queues. Once the admin queue is initialized,
the driver uses it to get the firmware version.
