2021-09-30ixgbe: let the xdpdrv work with more than 64 cpusJason Xing
Originally, ixgbe driver doesn't allow the mounting of xdpdrv if the server is equipped with more than 64 cpus online. So it turns out that the loading of xdpdrv causes the "NOMEM" failure. Actually, we can adjust the algorithm and then make it work through mapping the current cpu to some xdp ring with the protect of @tx_lock. 2021-09-29ixgbe: Fix NULL pointer dereference in ixgbe_xdp_setupFeng Zhou
The ixgbe driver currently generates a NULL pointer dereference with some machine (online cpus < 63). This is due to the fact that the maximum value of num_xdp_queues is nr_cpu_ids. Code is in "ixgbe_set_rss_queues"". Here's how the problem repeats itself: Some machine (online cpus < 63), And user set num_queues to 63 through ethtool. Code is in the "ixgbe_set_channels", adapter->ring_feature[RING_F_FDIR].limit = count; It becomes 63. When user use xdp, "ixgbe_set_rss_queues" will set queues num. adapter->num_rx_queues = rss_i; adapter->num_tx_queues = rss_i; adapter->num_xdp_queues = ixgbe_xdp_queues(adapter); And rss_i's value is from f = &adapter->ring_feature[RING_F_FDIR]; rss_i = f->indices = f->limit; So "num_rx_queues" > "num_xdp_queues", when run to "ixgbe_xdp_setup", for (i = 0; i < adapter->num_rx_queues; i++) if (adapter->xdp_ring[i]->xsk_umem) It leads to panic. Most users of ndo_do_ioctl are ethernet drivers that implement the MII commands SIOCGMIIPHY/SIOCGMIIREG/SIOCSMIIREG, or hardware timestamping with SIOCSHWTSTAMP/SIOCGHWTSTAMP. Separate these from the few drivers that use ndo_do_ioctl to implement SIOCBOND, SIOCBR and SIOCWANDEV commands. This is a purely cosmetic change intended to help readers find their way through the implementation. 2021-07-20ixgbe: Fix packet corruption due to missing DMA syncMarkus Boehme
When receiving a packet with multiple fragments, hardware may still touch the first fragment until the entire packet has been received. The driver therefore keeps the first fragment mapped for DMA until end of packet has been asserted, and delays its dma_sync call until then. The driver tries to fit multiple receive buffers on one page. When using 3K receive buffers (e.g. using Jumbo frames and legacy-rx is turned off/build_skb is being used) on an architecture with 4K pages, the driver allocates an order 1 compound page and uses one page per receive buffer. To determine the correct offset for a delayed DMA sync of the first fragment of a multi-fragment packet, the driver then cannot just use PAGE_MASK on the DMA address but has to construct a mask based on the actual size of the backing page. Using PAGE_MASK in the 3K RX buffer/4K page architecture configuration will always sync the first page of a compound page. With the SWIOTLB enabled this can lead to corrupted packets (zeroed out first fragment, re-used garbage from another packet) and various consequences, such as slow/stalling data transfers and connection resets. For example, testing on a link with MTU exceeding 3058 bytes on a host with SWIOTLB enabled (e.g. "iommu=soft swiotlb=262144,force") TCP transfers quickly fizzle out without this patch. 2021-06-24intel: Remove rcu_read_lock() around XDP program invocationToke Høiland-Jørgensen
The Intel drivers all have rcu_read_lock()/rcu_read_unlock() pairs around XDP program invocations. However, the actual lifetime of the objects referred by the XDP program invocation is longer, all the way through to the call to xdp_do_flush(), making the scope of the rcu_read_lock() too small. This turns out to be harmless because it all happens in a single NAPI poll cycle (and thus under local_bh_disable()), but it makes the rcu_read_lock() misleading. Rather than extend the scope of the rcu_read_lock(), just get rid of it entirely. With the addition of RCU annotations to the XDP_REDIRECT map types that take bh execution into account, lockdep even understands this to be safe, so there's really no reason to keep it around. The ixgbe hardware needs some very specific programming for certain registers, which led to some misguided usage of ntohs instead of using be16_to_cpu(), as well as a home grown swap followed by an ntohs. Check that the MTU value requested by the VF is in the supported range of MTUs before attempting to set the VF large packet enable, otherwise reject the request. 2021-04-13ixgbe: Fix NULL pointer dereference in ethtool loopback testAlexander Duyck
The ixgbe driver currently generates a NULL pointer dereference when performing the ethtool loopback test. This is due to the fact that there isn't a q_vector associated with the test ring when it is setup as interrupts are not normally added to the test rings. To address this I have added code that will check for a q_vector before returning a napi_id value. If a q_vector is not present it will return a value of 0. We want to change the current ndo_xdp_xmit drop semantics because it will allow us to implement better queue overflow handling. This is working towards the larger goal of a XDP TX queue-hook. Move XDP_REDIRECT error path handling from each XDP ethernet driver to devmap code. According to the new APIs, the driver running the ndo_xdp_xmit pointer, will break tx loop whenever the hw reports a tx error and it will just return to devmap caller the number of successfully transmitted frames. 2021-03-12ixgbe: move headroom initialization to ixgbe_configure_rx_ringMaciej Fijalkowski
ixgbe_rx_offset(), that is supposed to initialize the Rx buffer headroom, relies on __IXGBE_RX_BUILD_SKB_ENABLED flag. Currently, the callsite of mentioned function is placed incorrectly within ixgbe_setup_rx_resources() where Rx ring's build skb flag is not set yet. This causes the XDP_REDIRECT to be partially broken due to inability to create xdp_frame in the headroom space, as the headroom is 0. Fix this by moving ixgbe_rx_offset() to ixgbe_configure_rx_ring() after the flag setting, which happens to be set in ixgbe_set_rx_buffer_len. 2021-02-12ixgbe: store the result of ixgbe_rx_offset() onto ixgbe_ringMaciej Fijalkowski
Output of ixgbe_rx_offset() is based on ethtool's priv flag setting, which when changed, causes PF reset (disables napi, frees irqs, loads different Rx mem model, etc.). This means that within napi its result is constant and there is no reason to call it per each processed frame. Add new 'rx_offset' field to ixgbe_ring that is meant to hold the ixgbe_rx_offset() result and use it within ixgbe_clean_rx_irq(). Furthermore, use it within ixgbe_alloc_mapped_page(). Last but not least, un-inline the function of interest as it lives in .c file so let compiler do the decision about the inlining. 2020-09-29net: intel: Remove in_interrupt() warningsSebastian Andrzej Siewior
in_interrupt() is ill defined and does not provide what the name suggests. The usage especially in driver code is deprecated and a tree wide effort to clean up and consolidate the (ab)usage of in_interrupt() and related checks is happening. In this case the checks cover only parts of the contexts in which these functions cannot be called. They fail to detect preemption or interrupt disabled invocations. As the functions which are invoked from the various places contain already a broad variety of checks (always enabled or debug option dependent) cover all invalid conditions already, there is no point in having inconsistent warnings in those drivers.
