2021-07-27tty: stop using alloc_tty_driverJiri Slaby
alloc_tty_driver was deprecated by tty_alloc_driver in commit 7f0bc6a68ed9 (TTY: pass flags to alloc_tty_driver) in 2012. I never got into eliminating alloc_tty_driver until now. So we still have two functions for allocating drivers which might be confusing. So get rid of alloc_tty_driver uses to eliminate it for good in the next patch. Note we need to switch return value checking as tty_alloc_driver uses ERR_PTR. And flags are now a parameter of tty_alloc_driver. 2018-07-07headers: separate linux/mod_devicetable.h from linux/platform_device.hRandy Dunlap
At over 4000 #includes, <linux/platform_device.h> is the 9th most #included header file in the Linux kernel. It does not need <linux/mod_devicetable.h>, so drop that header and explicitly add <linux/mod_devicetable.h> to source files that need it. 4146 #include <linux/platform_device.h> After this patch, there are 225 files that use <linux/mod_devicetable.h>, for a reduction of around 3900 times that <linux/mod_devicetable.h> does not have to be read & parsed. 225 #include <linux/mod_devicetable.h> This patch was build-tested on 20 different arch-es. It also makes these drivers SubmitChecklist#1 compliant. 2018-06-12treewide: kzalloc() -> kcalloc()Kees Cook
The kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kcalloc(). This patch replaces cases of: kzalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kcalloc(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kzalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kzalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kzalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. The Coccinelle script used for this was: // Fix redundant parens around sizeof(). @@ type TYPE; expression THING, E; @@ ( kzalloc( - (sizeof(TYPE)) * E + sizeof(TYPE) * E , ...) | kzalloc( - (sizeof(THING)) * E + sizeof(THING) * E , ...) ) // Drop single-byte sizes and redundant parens. @@ expression COUNT; 2017-12-15tty: goldfish: Enable 'earlycon' only if built-inSebastian Andrzej Siewior
Commit 3840ed9548f7 ("tty: goldfish: Implement support for kernel 'earlycon' parameter") breaks an allmodconfig config on x86: | LD vmlinux.o | MODPOST vmlinux.o |drivers/tty/serial/earlycon.o: In function `parse_options': |drivers/tty/serial/earlycon.c:97: undefined reference to `uart_parse_earlycon' |Makefile:1005: recipe for target 'vmlinux' failed earlycon.c::parse_options() invokes uart_parse_earlycon() from serial_core.c which is compiled=m because GOLDFISH_TTY itself (and most others) are =m. To avoid that, I'm adding the _CONSOLE config option which is selected if the GOLDFISH module itself is =y since it doesn't need the early bits for the =m case (other drivers do the same dance). The alternative would be to move uart_parse_earlycon() from serial_core.c to earlycon.c (we don't have that many users of that function). 2017-11-08tty: Remove redundant license textGreg Kroah-Hartman
Now that the SPDX tag is in all tty files, that identifies the license in a specific and legally-defined manner. So the extra GPL text wording can be removed as it is no longer needed at all. This is done on a quest to remove the 700+ different ways that files in the kernel describe the GPL license text. And there's unneeded stuff like the address (sometimes incorrect) for the FSF which is never needed. No copyright headers or other non-license-description text was removed. 2017-11-08tty: add SPDX identifiers to all remaining files in drivers/tty/Greg Kroah-Hartman
It's good to have SPDX identifiers in all files to make it easier to audit the kernel tree for correct licenses. Update the drivers/tty files files with the correct SPDX license identifier based on the license text in the file itself. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This work is based on a script and data from Thomas Gleixner, Philippe Ombredanne, and Kate Stewart. 2017-08-31tty: goldfish: Implement support for kernel 'earlycon' parameterMiodrag Dinic
Add early console functionality to the Goldfish tty driver. When 'earlycon' kernel command line parameter is used with no options, the early console is determined by the 'stdout-path' property in device tree's 'chosen' node. This is illustrated in the following device tree source example: Device tree example: chosen { stdout-path = "/goldfish_tty@1f004000"; }; goldfish_tty@1f004000 { interrupts = <0xc>; reg = <0x1f004000 0x0 0x1000>; compatible = "google,goldfish-tty"; }; Signed-off-by: Miodrag Dinic <miodrag.dinic@imgtec.com> Signed-off-by: Goran Ferenc <goran.ferenc@imgtec.com> Signed-off-by: Aleksandar Markovic <aleksandar.markovic@imgtec.com> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
2017-08-31tty: goldfish: Use streaming DMA for r/w operations on Ranchu platformsMiodrag Dinic
Implement tty r/w operations using streaming DMA. Goldfish tty for Ranchu platforms has been modified to use streaming DMA mappings for read/write operations. This change eliminates the need for snooping through the TLB in QEMU using cpu_get_phys_page_debug() which does not guarantee that it will return the valid va -> pa mapping. The streaming DMA mapping is implemented using dma_map_single() per transfer, while dma_unmap_single() is used for unmapping right after the DMA transfer. Using DMA API is the proper way for handling r/w transfers and makes this driver more portable, thus effectively eliminating the need for virt_to_page() and page_to_phys() conversions. This change does not affect the old style Goldfish tty behaviour which is still used by the Goldfish emulator. Version register has been added and probed to see which platform is running this driver. Reading from the new register GOLDFISH_TTY_REG_VERSION using the Goldfish emulator will return 0 and driver will work with virtual addresses. Whereas if run on Ranchu it returns 1, and thus DMA is used. (Goldfish and Ranchu are code names for the first and the second generation of virtual boards used by Android emulator.) 2015-05-31staging: goldfish: Fix pointer cast for 32 bitsPeter Senna Tschudin
As the first argument of gf_write64() was of type unsigned long, and as some calls to gf_write64() were casting the first argument from void * to u64 the compiler and/or sparse were printing warnings for casts of wrong sizes when compiling for i386. This patch changes the type of the first argument of gf_write64() to const void *, and update calls to the function. This change fixed the warnings and allowed to remove casts from 3 calls to gf_write64(). In addition gf_write64() was renamed to gf_write_ptr() as the name was misleading because it only writes 32 bits on 32 bit systems. gf_write_dma_addr() was added to handle dma_addr_t values which is used at drivers/staging/goldfish/goldfish_audio.c. 2015-03-10goldfish: goldfish_tty_probe() is not using 'i' any moreJiri Kosina
The only place where 'i' has been used was a dead code that got removed by 2a2483685a9de ("goldfish: remove unreachable line of code"). Remove the last reference to the variable as well. None of these files are actually using any __init type directives and hence don't need to include <linux/init.h>. Most are just a left over from __devinit and __cpuinit removal, or simply due to code getting copied from one driver to the next. 2013-01-21goldfish: tty driverArve Hjønnevåg
This provides a console driver for the Goldfish virtual platform. The original is from Arve with changes from Jun Nakajima and Tom Keel. This has been then been ported to the current kernel and to the tty port mechanism by Alan Cox. In the process it gained proper POSIX semantics and vhangup works. The default name is not ttyS as this belongs to the 8250 driver. Instead ttyGFx is now used. In the normal usage case the first port serves as a kernel logging console and the second one carries various other data streams for the emulation.
