2024-12-01Get rid of 'remove_new' relic from platform driver structLinus Torvalds
The continual trickle of small conversion patches is grating on me, and is really not helping. Just get rid of the 'remove_new' member function, which is just an alias for the plain 'remove', and had a comment to that effect: /* * .remove_new() is a relic from a prototype conversion of .remove(). * New drivers are supposed to implement .remove(). Once all drivers are * converted to not use .remove_new any more, it will be dropped. */ This was just a tree-wide 'sed' script that replaced '.remove_new' with '.remove', with some care taken to turn a subsequent tab into two tabs to make things line up. I did do some minimal manual whitespace adjustment for places that used spaces to line things up. Then I just removed the old (sic) .remove_new member function, and this is the end result. 2024-10-15fbdev: sstfb: Make CONFIG_FB_DEVICE optionalGonzalo Silvalde Blanco
The sstfb driver currently depends on CONFIG_FB_DEVICE to create sysfs entries and access info->dev. This patch wraps the relevant code blocks with #ifdef CONFIG_FB_DEVICE, allowing the driver to be built and used even if CONFIG_FB_DEVICE is not selected. The sysfs setting only controls the VGA pass-through state and is not required for the display to work correctly. (See: http://vogonswiki.com/index.php/VGA_passthrough_cable for more information.) 2024-10-08fbdev: Switch back to struct platform_driver::remove()Uwe Kleine-König
After commit 0edb555a65d1 ("platform: Make platform_driver::remove() return void") .remove() is (again) the right callback to implement for platform drivers. Convert all platform drivers below drivers/video/fbdev to use .remove(), with the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As .remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer. While touching these files, make indention of the struct initializer consistent in several files. Duplicate FB_BLANK_ constants as LCD_POWER_ constants in the lcd header file. Allows lcd drivers to avoid including the fbdev header file and removes a compile-time dependency between the two subsystems. The new LCD_POWER_ constants have the same values as their FB_BLANK_ counterparts. Hence semantics does not change and the lcd drivers can be converted one by one. Each instance of FB_BLANK_UNBLANK becomes LCD_POWER_ON, each of FB_BLANK_POWERDOWN becomes LCD_POWER_OFF, FB_BLANK_NORMAL becomes LCD_POWER_REDUCED and FB_BLANK_VSYNC_SUSPEND becomes LCD_POWER_REDUCED_VSYNC_SUSPEND. Lcd code or drivers do not use FB_BLANK_HSYNC_SUSPEND, so no new constants for this is being added. The tokens LCD_POWER_REDUCED and LCD_POWER_REDUCED_VSYNC_SUSPEND are deprecated and drivers should replace them with LCD_POWER_ON and LCD_POWER_OFF. Add struct fb_info.lcd_dev for fbdev drivers to store a reference to their lcd device. Update the lcd's fb_notifier_callback() to test for this field. The lcd module can now detect if an lcd device belongs to an fbdev device. This works similar to the bl_dev for backlights and will allow for the removal of the check_fb callback from several fbdev driver's lcd devices.
