2022-05-25ocfs2: dlmfs: fix error handling of user_dlm_destroy_lockJunxiao Bi via Ocfs2-devel
When user_dlm_destroy_lock failed, it didn't clean up the flags it set before exit. For USER_LOCK_IN_TEARDOWN, if this function fails because of lock is still in used, next time when unlink invokes this function, it will return succeed, and then unlink will remove inode and dentry if lock is not in used(file closed), but the dlm lock is still linked in dlm lock resource, then when bast come in, it will trigger a panic due to user-after-free. See the following panic call trace. To fix this, USER_LOCK_IN_TEARDOWN should be reverted if fail. And also error should be returned if USER_LOCK_IN_TEARDOWN is set to let user know that unlink fail. For the case of ocfs2_dlm_unlock failure, besides USER_LOCK_IN_TEARDOWN, USER_LOCK_BUSY is also required to be cleared. Even though spin lock is released in between, but USER_LOCK_IN_TEARDOWN is still set, for USER_LOCK_BUSY, if before every place that waits on this flag, USER_LOCK_IN_TEARDOWN is checked to bail out, that will make sure no flow waits on the busy flag set by user_dlm_destroy_lock(), then we can simplely revert USER_LOCK_BUSY when ocfs2_dlm_unlock fails. Fix user_dlm_cluster_lock() which is the only function not following this. 2022-05-25ocfs2: dlmfs: don't clear USER_LOCK_ATTACHED when destroying lockJunxiao Bi
The following function is the only place that checks USER_LOCK_ATTACHED. This flag is set when lock request is granted through user_ast() and only the following function will clear it. Checking of this flag here is to make sure ocfs2_dlm_unlock is not issued if this lock is never granted. For example, lock file is created and then get removed, open file never happens. Clearing the flag here is not necessary because this is the only function that checks it, if another flow is executing user_dlm_destroy_lock(), it will bail out at the beginning because of USER_LOCK_IN_TEARDOWN and never check USER_LOCK_ATTACHED. Drop the clear, so we don't need take care of it for the following error handling patch. int user_dlm_destroy_lock(struct user_lock_res *lockres) { ... status = 0; if (!(lockres->l_flags & USER_LOCK_ATTACHED)) { spin_unlock(&lockres->l_lock); goto bail; } lockres->l_flags &= ~USER_LOCK_ATTACHED; lockres->l_flags |= USER_LOCK_BUSY; spin_unlock(&lockres->l_lock); status = ocfs2_dlm_unlock(conn, &lockres->l_lksb, DLM_LKF_VALBLK); if (status) { user_log_dlm_error("ocfs2_dlm_unlock", status, lockres); goto bail; } ... } V1 discussion with Joseph: https://lore.kernel.org/all/7b620c53-0c45-da2c-829e-26195cbe7d4e@linux.alibaba.com/T/ Link: https://lkml.kernel.org/r/20220518235224.87100-1-junxiao.bi@oracle.com Signed-off-by: Junxiao Bi <junxiao.bi@oracle.com> Reviewed-by: Joseph Qi <joseph.qi@linux.alibaba.com> Cc: Mark Fasheh <mark@fasheh.com> Cc: Joel Becker <jlbec@evilplan.org> Cc: Junxiao Bi <junxiao.bi@oracle.com> Cc: Changwei Ge <gechangwei@live.cn> Cc: Gang He <ghe@suse.com> Cc: Jun Piao <piaojun@huawei.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org>
2022-04-29ocfs2: rewrite error handling of ocfs2_fill_superHeming Zhao via Ocfs2-devel
Current ocfs2_fill_super() uses one goto label "read_super_error" to handle all error cases. And with previous serial patches, the error handling should fork more branches to handle different error cases. This patch rewrite the error handling of ocfs2_fill_super. 2022-04-29ocfs2: fix mounting crash if journal is not allocedHeming Zhao via Ocfs2-devel
Patch series "rewrite error handling during mounting stage". This patch (of 5): After commit da5e7c87827e8 ("ocfs2: cleanup journal init and shutdown"), journal init later than before, it makes NULL pointer access in free routine. Crash flow: ocfs2_fill_super + ocfs2_mount_volume | + ocfs2_dlm_init //fail & return, osb->journal is NULL. | + ... | + ocfs2_check_volume //no chance to init osb->journal | + ... + ocfs2_dismount_volume ocfs2_release_system_inodes ... evict ... ocfs2_clear_inode ocfs2_checkpoint_inode ocfs2_ci_fully_checkpointed time_after(journal->j_trans_id, ci->ci_last_trans) + journal is empty, crash! For fixing, there are three solutions: 1> Partly revert commit da5e7c87827e8 For avoiding kernel crash, this make sense for us. We only concerned whether there has any non-system inode access before dlm init. The answer is NO. And all journal replay/recovery handling happen after dlm & journal init done. So this method is not graceful but workable. 2> Add osb->journal check in free inode routine (eg ocfs2_clear_inode) The fix code is special for mounting phase, but it will continue working after mounting stage. In another word, this method adds useless code in normal inode free flow. 3> Do directly free inode in mounting phase This method is brutal/complex and may introduce unsafe code, currently maintainer didn't like. At last, we chose method <1> and did partly reverted job. We reverted journal init codes, and kept cleanup codes flow. To move the list iterator variable into the list_for_each_entry_*() macro in the future it should be avoided to use the list iterator variable after the loop body. To *never* use the list iterator variable after the loop it was concluded to use a separate iterator variable instead of a found boolean [1]. Pass the block_device and operation that we plan to use this bio for to bio_alloc to optimize the assignment. 2022-01-28ocfs2: fix subdirectory registration with register_sysctl()Linus Torvalds
The kernel test robot reports that commit c42ff46f97c1 ("ocfs2: simplify subdirectory registration with register_sysctl()") is broken, and results in kernel warning messages like sysctl table check failed: fs/ocfs2/nm Not a file sysctl table check failed: fs/ocfs2/nm No proc_handler sysctl table check failed: fs/ocfs2/nm bogus .mode 0555 and in fact this was already reported back in linux-next, but nobody seems to have reacted to that report. Possibly that original report only ever made it to the lkp list. The problem seems to be that the simplification didn't actually go far enough, and should have converted the whole directory path to the final sysctl file, rather than just the two first components. So take that last step. 2022-01-15ocfs2: clearly handle ocfs2_grab_pages_for_write() return valueJoseph Qi
ocfs2_grab_pages_for_write() may return -EAGAIN if write context type is mmap and it could not lock the target page. In this case, we exit with no error and no target page. And then trigger the caller page_mkwrite() to retry. Since there are other caller types, e.g. buffer and direct io, make the return value handling more clear. 2021-11-06ocfs2: fix data corruption on truncateJan Kara
Patch series "ocfs2: Truncate data corruption fix". As further testing has shown, commit 5314454ea3f ("ocfs2: fix data corruption after conversion from inline format") didn't fix all the data corruption issues the customer started observing after 6dbf7bb55598 ("fs: Don't invalidate page buffers in block_write_full_page()") This time I have tracked them down to two bugs in ocfs2 truncation code. One bug (truncating page cache before clearing tail cluster and setting i_size) could cause data corruption even before 6dbf7bb55598, but before that commit it needed a race with page fault, after 6dbf7bb55598 it started to be pretty deterministic. Another bug (zeroing pages beyond old i_size) used to be harmless inefficiency before commit 6dbf7bb55598. But after commit 6dbf7bb55598 in combination with the first bug it resulted in deterministic data corruption. Although fixing only the first problem is needed to stop data corruption, I've fixed both issues to make the code more robust. This patch (of 2): ocfs2_truncate_file() did unmap invalidate page cache pages before zeroing partial tail cluster and setting i_size. Thus some pages could be left (and likely have left if the cluster zeroing happened) in the page cache beyond i_size after truncate finished letting user possibly see stale data once the file was extended again. Also the tail cluster zeroing was not guaranteed to finish before truncate finished causing possible stale data exposure. The problem started to be particularly easy to hit after commit 6dbf7bb55598 "fs: Don't invalidate page buffers in block_write_full_page()" stopped invalidation of pages beyond i_size from page writeback path. Fix these problems by unmapping and invalidating pages in the page cache after the i_size is reduced and tail cluster is zeroed out. 2021-10-18ocfs2: fix data corruption after conversion from inline formatJan Kara
Commit 6dbf7bb55598 ("fs: Don't invalidate page buffers in block_write_full_page()") uncovered a latent bug in ocfs2 conversion from inline inode format to a normal inode format. The code in ocfs2_convert_inline_data_to_extents() attempts to zero out the whole cluster allocated for file data by grabbing, zeroing, and dirtying all pages covering this cluster. However these pages are beyond i_size, thus writeback code generally ignores these dirty pages and no blocks were ever actually zeroed on the disk. This oversight was fixed by commit 693c241a5f6a ("ocfs2: No need to zero pages past i_size.") for standard ocfs2 write path, inline conversion path was apparently forgotten; the commit log also has a reasoning why the zeroing actually is not needed. After commit 6dbf7bb55598, things became worse as writeback code stopped invalidating buffers on pages beyond i_size and thus these pages end up with clean PageDirty bit but with buffers attached to these pages being still dirty. So when a file is converted from inline format, then writeback triggers, and then the file is grown so that these pages become valid, the invalid dirtiness state is preserved, mark_buffer_dirty() does nothing on these pages (buffers are already dirty) but page is never written back because it is clean. So data written to these pages is lost once pages are reclaimed. Simple reproducer for the problem is: xfs_io -f -c "pwrite 0 2000" -c "pwrite 2000 2000" -c "fsync" \ -c "pwrite 4000 2000" ocfs2_file After unmounting and mounting the fs again, you can observe that end of 'ocfs2_file' has lost its contents. Fix the problem by not doing the pointless zeroing during conversion from inline format similarly as in the standard write path. 2021-08-23fs: remove mandatory file locking supportJeff Layton
We added CONFIG_MANDATORY_FILE_LOCKING in 2015, and soon after turned it off in Fedora and RHEL8. Several other distros have followed suit. I've heard of one problem in all that time: Someone migrated from an older distro that supported "-o mand" to one that didn't, and the host had a fstab entry with "mand" in it which broke on reboot. They didn't actually _use_ mandatory locking so they just removed the mount option and moved on. This patch rips out mandatory locking support wholesale from the kernel, along with the Kconfig option and the Documentation file. It also changes the mount code to ignore the "mand" mount option instead of erroring out, and to throw a big, ugly warning. Signed-off-by: Jeff Layton <jlayton@kernel.org>
