2024-04-08geneve: fix header validation in geneve[6]_xmit_skbEric Dumazet
syzbot is able to trigger an uninit-value in geneve_xmit() [1] Problem : While most ip tunnel helpers (like ip_tunnel_get_dsfield()) uses skb_protocol(skb, true), pskb_inet_may_pull() is only using skb->protocol. If anything else than ETH_P_IPV6 or ETH_P_IP is found in skb->protocol, pskb_inet_may_pull() does nothing at all. If a vlan tag was provided by the caller (af_packet in the syzbot case), the network header might not point to the correct location, and skb linear part could be smaller than expected. Add skb_vlan_inet_prepare() to perform a complete mac validation. Use this in geneve for the moment, I suspect we need to adopt this more broadly. v4 - Jakub reported v3 broke l2_tos_ttl_inherit.sh selftest - Only call __vlan_get_protocol() for vlan types. 2024-02-07ip_tunnel: use exit_batch_rtnl() methodEric Dumazet
exit_batch_rtnl() is called while RTNL is held, and devices to be unregistered can be queued in the dev_kill_list. This saves one rtnl_lock()/rtnl_unlock() pair and one unregister_netdevice_many() call. This patch takes care of ipip, ip_vti, and ip_gre tunnels. 2023-11-16vxlan: add support for flowlabel inheritAlce Lafranque
By default, VXLAN encapsulation over IPv6 sets the flow label to 0, with an option for a fixed value. This commits add the ability to inherit the flow label from the inner packet, like for other tunnel implementations. This enables devices using only L3 headers for ECMP to correctly balance VXLAN-encapsulated IPv6 packets. ``` $ ./ip/ip link add dummy1 type dummy $ ./ip/ip addr add 2001:db8::2/64 dev dummy1 $ ./ip/ip link set up dev dummy1 $ ./ip/ip link add vxlan1 type vxlan id 100 flowlabel inherit remote 2001:db8::1 local 2001:db8::2 $ ./ip/ip link set up dev vxlan1 $ ./ip/ip addr add 2001:db8:1::2/64 dev vxlan1 $ ./ip/ip link set arp off dev vxlan1 $ ping -q 2001:db8:1::1 & $ tshark -d udp.port==8472,vxlan -Vpni dummy1 -c1 [...] Internet Protocol Version 6, Src: 2001:db8::2, Dst: 2001:db8::1 0110 .... = Version: 6 .... 0000 0000 .... .... .... .... .... = Traffic Class: 0x00 (DSCP: CS0, ECN: Not-ECT) .... 0000 00.. .... .... .... .... .... = Differentiated Services Codepoint: Default (0) .... .... ..00 .... .... .... .... .... = Explicit Congestion Notification: Not ECN-Capable Transport (0) .... 1011 0001 1010 1111 1011 = Flow Label: 0xb1afb [...] Virtual eXtensible Local Area Network Flags: 0x0800, VXLAN Network ID (VNI) Group Policy ID: 0 VXLAN Network Identifier (VNI): 100 [...] Internet Protocol Version 6, Src: 2001:db8:1::2, Dst: 2001:db8:1::1 0110 .... = Version: 6 .... 0000 0000 .... .... .... .... .... = Traffic Class: 0x00 (DSCP: CS0, ECN: Not-ECT) .... 0000 00.. .... .... .... .... .... = Differentiated Services Codepoint: Default (0) .... .... ..00 .... .... .... .... .... = Explicit Congestion Notification: Not ECN-Capable Transport (0) .... 1011 0001 1010 1111 1011 = Flow Label: 0xb1afb ``` Signed-off-by: Alce Lafranque <alce@lafranque.net> Co-developed-by: Vincent Bernat <vincent@bernat.ch> Signed-off-by: Vincent Bernat <vincent@bernat.ch> Reviewed-by: Ido Schimmel <idosch@nvidia.com> Reviewed-by: David Ahern <dsahern@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: David S. 2023-04-12ipip,ip_tunnel,sit: Add FOU support for externally controlled ipip devicesChristian Ehrig
Today ipip devices in collect-metadata mode don't allow for sending FOU or GUE encapsulated packets. This patch lifts the restriction by adding a struct ip_tunnel_encap to the tunnel metadata. On the egress path, the members of this struct can be set by the bpf_skb_set_fou_encap kfunc via a BPF tc-hook. Instead of dropping packets wishing to use additional UDP encapsulation, ip_md_tunnel_xmit now evaluates the contents of this struct and adds the corresponding FOU or GUE header. Furthermore, it is making sure that additional header bytes are taken into account for PMTU discovery. On the ingress path, an ipip device in collect-metadata mode will fill this struct and a BPF tc-hook can obtain the information via a call to the bpf_skb_get_fou_encap kfunc. The minor change to ip_tunnel_encap, which now takes a pointer to struct ip_tunnel_encap instead of struct ip_tunnel, allows us to control FOU encap type and parameters on a per packet-level. 2022-08-18ip_tunnel: Respect tunnel key's "flow_flags" in IP tunnelsEyal Birger
Commit 451ef36bd229 ("ip_tunnels: Add new flow flags field to ip_tunnel_key") added a "flow_flags" member to struct ip_tunnel_key which was later used by the commit in the fixes tag to avoid dropping packets with sources that aren't locally configured when set in bpf_set_tunnel_key(). VXLAN and GENEVE were made to respect this flag, ip tunnels like IPIP and GRE were not. This commit fixes this omission by making ip_tunnel_init_flow() receive the flow flags from the tunnel key in the relevant collect_md paths. 2022-04-25ip_gre, ip6_gre: Fix race condition on o_seqno in collect_md modePeilin Ye
As pointed out by Jakub Kicinski, currently using TUNNEL_SEQ in collect_md mode is racy for [IP6]GRE[TAP] devices. Consider the following sequence of events: 1. An [IP6]GRE[TAP] device is created in collect_md mode using "ip link add ... external". "ip" ignores "[o]seq" if "external" is specified, so TUNNEL_SEQ is off, and the device is marked as NETIF_F_LLTX (i.e. it uses lockless TX); 2. Someone sets TUNNEL_SEQ on outgoing skb's, using e.g. bpf_skb_set_tunnel_key() in an eBPF program attached to this device; 3. gre_fb_xmit() or __gre6_xmit() processes these skb's: gre_build_header(skb, tun_hlen, flags, protocol, tunnel_id_to_key32(tun_info->key.tun_id), (flags & TUNNEL_SEQ) ? htonl(tunnel->o_seqno++) : 0); ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Since we are not using the TX lock (&txq->_xmit_lock), multiple CPUs may try to do this tunnel->o_seqno++ in parallel, which is racy. Fix it by making o_seqno atomic_t. As mentioned by Eric Dumazet in commit b790e01aee74 ("ip_gre: lockless xmit"), making o_seqno atomic_t increases "chance for packets being out of order at receiver" when NETIF_F_LLTX is on. Maybe a better fix would be: 1. Do not ignore "oseq" in external mode. Users MUST specify "oseq" if they want the kernel to allow sequencing of outgoing packets; 2. Reject all outgoing TUNNEL_SEQ packets if the device was not created with "oseq". Unfortunately, that would break userspace. We could now make [IP6]GRE[TAP] devices always NETIF_F_LLTX, but let us do it in separate patches to keep this fix minimal. 2020-08-04tunnels: PMTU discovery support for directly bridged IP packetsStefano Brivio
It's currently possible to bridge Ethernet tunnels carrying IP packets directly to external interfaces without assigning them addresses and routes on the bridged network itself: this is the case for UDP tunnels bridged with a standard bridge or by Open vSwitch. PMTU discovery is currently broken with those configurations, because the encapsulation effectively decreases the MTU of the link, and while we are able to account for this using PMTU discovery on the lower layer, we don't have a way to relay ICMP or ICMPv6 messages needed by the sender, because we don't have valid routes to it. On the other hand, as a tunnel endpoint, we can't fragment packets as a general approach: this is for instance clearly forbidden for VXLAN by RFC 7348, section 4.3: VTEPs MUST NOT fragment VXLAN packets. Intermediate routers may fragment encapsulated VXLAN packets due to the larger frame size. The destination VTEP MAY silently discard such VXLAN fragments. The same paragraph recommends that the MTU over the physical network accomodates for encapsulations, but this isn't a practical option for complex topologies, especially for typical Open vSwitch use cases. Further, it states that: Other techniques like Path MTU discovery (see [RFC1191] and [RFC1981]) MAY be used to address this requirement as well. Now, PMTU discovery already works for routed interfaces, we get route exceptions created by the encapsulation device as they receive ICMP Fragmentation Needed and ICMPv6 Packet Too Big messages, and we already rebuild those messages with the appropriate MTU and route them back to the sender. Add the missing bits for bridged cases: - checks in skb_tunnel_check_pmtu() to understand if it's appropriate to trigger a reply according to RFC 1122 section 3.2.2 for ICMP and RFC 4443 section 2.4 for ICMPv6. This function is already called by UDP tunnels - a new function generating those ICMP or ICMPv6 replies. We can't reuse icmp_send() and icmp6_send() as we don't see the sender as a valid destination. This doesn't need to be generic, as we don't cover any other type of ICMP errors given that we only provide an encapsulation function to the sender While at it, make the MTU check in skb_tunnel_check_pmtu() accurate: we might receive GSO buffers here, and the passed headroom already includes the inner MAC length, so we don't have to account for it a second time (that would imply three MAC headers on the wire, but there are just two). This issue became visible while bridging IPv6 packets with 4500 bytes of payload over GENEVE using IPv4 with a PMTU of 4000. Given the 50 bytes of encapsulation headroom, we would advertise MTU as 3950, and we would reject fragmented IPv6 datagrams of 3958 bytes size on the wire. We're exclusively dealing with network MTU here, though, so we could get Ethernet frames up to 3964 octets in that case. v2: - moved skb_tunnel_check_pmtu() to ip_tunnel_core.c (David Ahern) - split IPv4/IPv6 functions (David Ahern) Signed-off-by: Stefano Brivio <sbrivio@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: David Ahern <dsahern@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2018-11-08udp: Support for error handlers of tunnels with arbitrary destination portStefano Brivio
ICMP error handling is currently not possible for UDP tunnels not employing a receiving socket with local destination port matching the remote one, because we have no way to look them up. Add an err_handler tunnel encapsulation operation that can be exported by tunnels in order to pass the error to the protocol implementing the encapsulation. We can't easily use a lookup function as we did for VXLAN and GENEVE, as protocol error handlers, which would be in turn called by implementations of this new operation, handle the errors themselves, together with the tunnel lookup. Without a socket, we can't be sure which encapsulation error handler is the appropriate one: encapsulation handlers (the ones for FoU and GUE introduced in the next patch, e.g.) will need to check the new error codes returned by protocol handlers to figure out if errors match the given encapsulation, and, in turn, report this error back, so that we can try all of them in __udp{4,6}_lib_err_encap_no_sk() until we have a match. v2: - Name all arguments in err_handler prototypes (David Miller) Signed-off-by: Stefano Brivio <sbrivio@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: Sabrina Dubroca <sd@queasysnail.net> Signed-off-by: David S. fallback tunnels (like tunl0, gre0, gretap0, erspan0, sit0, ip6tnl0, ip6gre0) are automatically created when the corresponding module is loaded. In many cases, netns are used for isolation purposes, and these extra network devices are a waste of resources. We are using thousands of netns per host, and hit the netns creation/delete bottleneck a lot. 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. This feature allows the administrator to set an fwmark for packets traversing a tunnel. This allows the use of independent routing tables for tunneled packets without the use of iptables. There is no concept of per-packet routing decisions through IPv4 tunnels, so this implementation does not need to work with per-packet route lookups as the v6 implementation may (with IP6_TNL_F_USE_ORIG_FWMARK). Further, since the v4 tunnel ioctls share datastructures (which can not be trivially modified) with the kernel's internal tunnel configuration structures, the mark attribute must be stored in the tunnel structure itself and passed as a parameter when creating or changing tunnel attributes. 2017-01-08net: make ndo_get_stats64 a void functionstephen hemminger
The network device operation for reading statistics is only called in one place, and it ignores the return value. Having a structure return value is potentially confusing because some future driver could incorrectly assume that the return value was used. Fix all drivers with ndo_get_stats64 to have a void function. Signed-off-by: Stephen Hemminger <sthemmin@microsoft.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2016-11-18netns: make struct pernet_operations::id unsigned intAlexey Dobriyan
Make struct pernet_operations::id unsigned. There are 2 reasons to do so: 1) This field is really an index into an zero based array and thus is unsigned entity. Using negative value is out-of-bound access by definition. 2) On x86_64 unsigned 32-bit data which are mixed with pointers via array indexing or offsets added or subtracted to pointers are preffered to signed 32-bit data. "int" being used as an array index needs to be sign-extended to 64-bit before being used. void f(long *p, int i) { g(p[i]); } roughly translates to movsx rsi, esi mov rdi, [rsi+...] call g MOVSX is 3 byte instruction which isn't necessary if the variable is unsigned because x86_64 is zero extending by default. Now, there is net_generic() function which, you guessed it right, uses "int" as an array index: static inline void *net_generic(const struct net *net, int id) { ... ptr = ng->ptr[id - 1]; ... } And this function is used a lot, so those sign extensions add up. Patch snipes ~1730 bytes on allyesconfig kernel (without all junk messing with code generation): add/remove: 0/0 grow/shrink: 70/598 up/down: 396/-2126 (-1730) Unfortunately some functions actually grow bigger. This is a semmingly random artefact of code generation with register allocator being used differently. gcc decides that some variable needs to live in new r8+ registers and every access now requires REX prefix. Or it is shifted into r12, so [r12+0] addressing mode has to be used which is longer than [r8] However, overall balance is in negative direction: add/remove: 0/0 grow/shrink: 70/598 up/down: 396/-2126 (-1730) function old new delta nfsd4_lock 3886 3959 +73 tipc_link_build_proto_msg 1096 1140 +44 mac80211_hwsim_new_radio 2776 2808 +32 tipc_mon_rcv 1032 1058 +26 svcauth_gss_legacy_init 1413 1429 +16 tipc_bcbase_select_primary 379 392 +13 nfsd4_exchange_id 1247 1260 +13 nfsd4_setclientid_confirm 782 793 +11 ... put_client_renew_locked 494 480 -14 ip_set_sockfn_get 730 716 -14 geneve_sock_add 829 813 -16 nfsd4_sequence_done 721 703 -18 nlmclnt_lookup_host 708 686 -22 nfsd4_lockt 1085 1063 -22 nfs_get_client 1077 1050 -27 tcf_bpf_init 1106 1076 -30 nfsd4_encode_fattr 5997 5930 -67 Total: Before=154856051, After=154854321, chg -0.00% Signed-off-by: Alexey Dobriyan <adobriyan@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2016-09-17ip_tunnel: add collect_md mode to IPIP tunnelAlexei Starovoitov
Similar to gre, vxlan, geneve tunnels allow IPIP tunnels to operate in 'collect metadata' mode. bpf_skb_[gs]et_tunnel_key() helpers can make use of it right away. ovs can use it as well in the future (once appropriate ovs-vport abstractions and user apis are added). Note that just like in other tunnels we cannot cache the dst, since tunnel_info metadata can be different for every packet. 2016-06-15net: ipv4: Add ability to have GRE ignore DF bit in IPv4 payloadsPhilip Prindeville
In the presence of firewalls which improperly block ICMP Unreachable (including Fragmentation Required) messages, Path MTU Discovery is prevented from working. A workaround is to handle IPv4 payloads opaquely, ignoring the DF bit--as is done for other payloads like AppleTalk--and doing transparent fragmentation and reassembly. Redux includes the enforcement of mutual exclusion between this feature and Path MTU Discovery as suggested by Alexander Duyck.
