2023-07-20llc: Check netns in llc_estab_match() and llc_listener_match().Kuniyuki Iwashima
We will remove this restriction in llc_rcv() in the following patch, which means that the protocol handler must be aware of netns. if (!net_eq(dev_net(dev), &init_net)) goto drop; llc_rcv() fetches llc_type_handlers[llc_pdu_type(skb) - 1] and calls it if not NULL. If the PDU type is LLC_DEST_CONN, llc_conn_handler() is called to pass skb to corresponding sockets. Then, we must look up a proper socket in the same netns with skb->dev. llc_conn_handler() calls __llc_lookup() to look up a established or litening socket by __llc_lookup_established() and llc_lookup_listener(). Both functions iterate on a list and call llc_estab_match() or llc_listener_match() to check if the socket is the correct destination. However, these functions do not check netns. Also, bind() and connect() call llc_establish_connection(), which finally calls __llc_lookup_established(), to check if there is a conflicting socket. Let's test netns in llc_estab_match() and llc_listener_match(). Signed-off-by: Kuniyuki Iwashima <kuniyu@amazon.com> Signed-off-by: Paolo Abeni <pabeni@redhat.com>

2019-10-09net: silence KCSAN warnings around sk_add_backlog() callsEric Dumazet
sk_add_backlog() callers usually read sk->sk_rcvbuf without owning the socket lock. This means sk_rcvbuf value can be changed by other cpus, and KCSAN complains. Add READ_ONCE() annotations to document the lockless nature of these reads. Note that writes over sk_rcvbuf should also use WRITE_ONCE(), but this will be done in separate patches to ease stable backports (if we decide this is relevant for stable trees). 2019-10-08llc: fix sk_buff refcounting in llc_conn_state_process()Eric Biggers
If llc_conn_state_process() sees that llc_conn_service() put the skb on a list, it will drop one fewer references to it. This is wrong because the current behavior is that llc_conn_service() never consumes a reference to the skb. The code also makes the number of skb references being dropped conditional on which of ind_prim and cfm_prim are nonzero, yet neither of these affects how many references are *acquired*. So there is extra code that tries to fix this up by sometimes taking another reference. Remove the unnecessary/broken refcounting logic and instead just add an skb_get() before the only two places where an extra reference is actually consumed. 2018-10-15llc: set SOCK_RCU_FREE in llc_sap_add_socket()Cong Wang
WHen an llc sock is added into the sk_laddr_hash of an llc_sap, it is not marked with SOCK_RCU_FREE. This causes that the sock could be freed while it is still being read by __llc_lookup_established() with RCU read lock. sock is refcounted, but with RCU read lock, nothing prevents the readers getting a zero refcnt. 2018-04-22llc: delete timers synchronously in llc_sk_free()Cong Wang
The connection timers of an llc sock could be still flying after we delete them in llc_sk_free(), and even possibly after we free the sock. We could just wait synchronously here in case of troubles. Note, I leave other call paths as they are, since they may not have to wait, at least we can change them to synchronously when needed. Also, move the code to net/llc/llc_conn.c, which is apparently a better place. 2018-03-27llc: properly handle dev_queue_xmit() return valueCong Wang
llc_conn_send_pdu() pushes the skb into write queue and calls llc_conn_send_pdus() to flush them out. However, the status of dev_queue_xmit() is not returned to caller, in this case, llc_conn_state_process(). llc_conn_state_process() needs hold the skb no matter success or failure, because it still uses it after that, therefore we should hold skb before dev_queue_xmit() when that skb is the one being processed by llc_conn_state_process(). For other callers, they can just pass NULL and ignore the return value as they are. refcount_t type and corresponding API should be used instead of atomic_t when the variable is used as a reference counter. 2017-04-18mm: Rename SLAB_DESTROY_BY_RCU to SLAB_TYPESAFE_BY_RCUPaul E. McKenney
A group of Linux kernel hackers reported chasing a bug that resulted from their assumption that SLAB_DESTROY_BY_RCU provided an existence guarantee, that is, that no block from such a slab would be reallocated during an RCU read-side critical section. Of course, that is not the case. Instead, SLAB_DESTROY_BY_RCU only prevents freeing of an entire slab of blocks. However, there is a phrase for this, namely "type safety". This commit therefore renames SLAB_DESTROY_BY_RCU to SLAB_TYPESAFE_BY_RCU in order to avoid future instances of this sort of confusion. Signed-off-by: Paul E. 2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. 2009-12-26llc: replace the socket list with a local address based hashOctavian Purdila
For the cases where a lot of interfaces are used in conjunction with a lot of LLC sockets bound to the same SAP, the iteration of the socket list becomes prohibitively expensive. Replacing the list with a a local address based hash significantly improves the bind and listener lookup operations as well as the datagram delivery. Connected sockets delivery is also improved, but this patch does not address the case where we have lots of sockets with the same local address connected to different remote addresses. In order to keep the socket sanity checks alive and fast a socket counter was added to the SAP structure. Signed-off-by: Octavian Purdila <opurdila@ixiacom.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2009-12-26llc: use a device based hash table to speed up multicast deliveryOctavian Purdila
This patch adds a per SAP device based hash table to solve the multicast delivery scalability issue when we have large number of interfaces and a large number of sockets bound to the same SAP. 2009-12-26llc: convert the socket list to RCU lockingOctavian Purdila
For the reclamation phase we use the SLAB_DESTROY_BY_RCU mechanism, which require some extra checks in the lookup code: a) If the current socket was released, reallocated & inserted in another list it will short circuit the iteration for the current list, thus we need to restart the lookup. b) If the current socket was released, reallocated & inserted in the same list we just need to recheck it matches the look-up criteria and if not we can skip to the next element. In this case there is no need to restart the lookup, since sockets are inserted at the start of the list and the worst that will happen is that we will iterate throught some of the list elements more then once. Note that the /proc and multicast delivery was not yet converted to RCU, it still uses spinlocks for protection. Signed-off-by: Octavian Purdila <opurdila@ixiacom.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2008-03-26[NET] NETNS: Omit sock->sk_net without CONFIG_NET_NS.YOSHIFUJI Hideaki
Introduce per-sock inlines: sock_net(), sock_net_set() and per-inet_timewait_sock inlines: twsk_net(), twsk_net_set(). Without CONFIG_NET_NS, no namespace other than &init_net exists. 2008-01-28[NET]: Convert init_timer into setup_timerPavel Emelyanov
Many-many code in the kernel initialized the timer->function and timer->data together with calling init_timer(timer). There is already a helper for this. Use it for networking code. The patch is HUGE, but makes the code 130 lines shorter (98 insertions(+), 228 deletions(-)). 2007-11-01[NET]: Forget the zero_it argument of sk_alloc()Pavel Emelyanov
Finally, the zero_it argument can be completely removed from the callers and from the function prototype. Besides, fix the checkpatch.pl warnings about using the assignments inside if-s. This patch is rather big, and it is a part of the previous one. I splitted it wishing to make the patches more readable. Hope this particular split helped. 2007-10-10[NET]: Make socket creation namespace safe.Eric W. Biederman
This patch passes in the namespace a new socket should be created in and has the socket code do the appropriate reference counting. By virtue of this all socket create methods are touched. In addition the socket create methods are modified so that they will fail if you attempt to create a socket in a non-default network namespace. Failing if we attempt to create a socket outside of the default network namespace ensures that as we incrementally make the network stack network namespace aware we will not export functionality that someone has not audited and made certain is network namespace safe. Allowing us to partially enable network namespaces before all of the exotic protocols are supported. Any protocol layers I have missed will fail to compile because I now pass an extra parameter into the socket creation code. 2005-10-08[PATCH] gfp flags annotations - part 1Al Viro
- added typedef unsigned int __nocast gfp_t; - replaced __nocast uses for gfp flags with gfp_t - it gives exactly the same warnings as far as sparse is concerned, doesn't change generated code (from gcc point of view we replaced unsigned int with typedef) and documents what's going on far better. 2005-04-16Linux-2.6.12-rc2v2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
