2024-11-18ALSA: hda: Poll jack events for LS7A HD-AudioHuacai Chen
LS7A HD-Audio disable interrupts and use polling mode due to hardware drawbacks. As a result, unsolicited jack events are also unusable. If we want to support headphone hotplug, we need to also poll jack events. Here we use 1500ms as the poll interval if no module parameter specify it. This reverts commit 478689b5990deb626a0b3f1ebf165979914d6be4. The fix seems leading to regressions for other systems. Also, the way to check the presence of IOMMU via get_dma_ops() isn't reliable and it's no longer applicable for 6.12. After all, it's no right fix, so let's revert it at first. To be noted, the PCM buffer allocation has been changed to try the continuous pages at first since 6.12, so the problem could be already addressed without this hackish workaround. 2024-09-09ALSA: hda: Use non-SG allocation for the communication buffersTakashi Iwai
The azx_bus->dma_type is referred only for allocating the communication buffers like CORB/RIRB, and the allocation size is small. Hence it doesn't have to be S/G buffer allocation, which is an obvious overkill. Use the standard SNDRV_DMA_TYPE_DEV_WC instead. This was changed to SNDRV_DMA_TYPE_DEV_WC_SG in the commit 37137ec26c2c ("ALSA: hda: Once again fix regression of page allocations with IOMMU") as a workaround for IOMMU-backed allocations. But this is no longer needed since the allocation with SNDRV_DMA_TYPE_DEV_WC itself was fixed in the commit 9c27301342a5 ("ALSA: memalloc: Use DMA API for x86 WC page allocations, too"). 2024-07-31ALSA: hda: Conditionally use snooping for AMD HDMITakashi Iwai
The recent regression report revealed that the use of WC pages for AMD HDMI device together with AMD IOMMU leads to unexpected truncation or noises. The issue seems triggered by the change in the kernel core memory allocation that enables IOMMU driver to use always S/G buffers. Meanwhile, the use of WC pages has been a workaround for the similar issue with standard pages in the past. So, now we need to apply the workaround conditionally, namely, only when IOMMU isn't in place. This patch modifies the workaround code to check the DMA ops at first and apply the snoop-off only when needed. We want sometimes to keep the runtime PM disabled persistently just like we did for the PM deny-list in the previous change, e.g. for testing some buggy device. This patch enhances the existing pm_blacklist option for achieving it easily. The default behavior doesn't change -- the driver looks up the deny list and disables the runtime PM if matches. However, when pm_blacklist=1 option is set, now the driver disables the runtime PM completely, just like the deny-list does. Update the documentation for this option, too. 2024-07-30ALSA: hda: Keep PM disablement for deny-listed instanceTakashi Iwai
We have a runtime PM deny-list for the devices that show the problems (typically click noises) at runtime suspend/resume, and when it matches, the driver disables the default runtime PM. However, we still allow the runtime PM changed via power_save module option dynamically, and the desktop system often tweaks it. This ended up with a re-enablement of the runtime PM that surprises users, suddenly suffering from the noises. This patch changes the driver behavior slightly: when the device is listed in the deny-list, ignore the power_save option change and keep the original (that is, off) runtime PM state. Let's reduce the dependencies of CONFIG_PM in snd-hda-intel driver code. I left a few module options to be dependent on CONFIG_PM (which are visible to users), but other places are either enabled or optimized by compiler automatically. Apollo Lake seems to also suffer from IRQ timing issues. After being up for ~4 minutes, a Pentium N4200 system ends up falling back to workqueue-based IRQ handling: [ 208.019906] snd_hda_intel 0000:00:0e.0: IRQ timing workaround is activated for card #0. Suggest a bigger bdl_pos_adj. Unfortunately, the Baytrail and Braswell workaround value of 32 samples isn't enough to fix the issue here. Default to 64 samples. It turns out that even if the comment says that the driver can load fine, it's not really the case and no codecs are detected. Specifically for -EPROBE_DEFER, always fail the probe. 2023-10-19ALSA: hda: i915: Add an allow_modprobe argument to snd_hdac_i915_initMaarten Lankhorst
Xe is a new GPU driver that re-uses the display (and sound) code from i915. It's no longer possible to load i915, as the GPU can be driven by the xe driver instead. The new behavior will return -EPROBE_DEFER, and wait for a compatible driver to be loaded instead of modprobing i915. Converting all drivers at the same time is a lot of work, instead we will convert each user one by one. Add a set of HD Audio PCI IDS, and the HDMI codec vendor IDs for Glenfly Gpus. - In default_bdl_pos_adj, set bdl to 128 as Glenfly Gpus have hardware limitation, need to increase hdac interrupt interval. - In azx_first_init, enable polling mode for Glenfly Gpu. When the codec complete the command, it sends interrupt and writes response entries to memory, howerver, the write requests sometimes are not actually synchronized to memory when driver handle hdac interrupt on Glenfly Gpus. If the RIRB status is not updated in the interrupt handler, azx_rirb_get_response keeps trying to recevie a response from rirb until 1s timeout. Enabling polling mode for Glenfly Gpu can fix the issue. - In patch_gf_hdmi, set Glenlfy Gpu Codec's no_sticky_stream as it need driver to do actual clean-ups for the linked codec when switch from one codec to another. Commit 586bc4aab878 ("ALSA: hda/hdmi - fix vgaswitcheroo detection for AMD") caused only AMD gpu's with PX to have their audio component register with vga_switcheroo. This meant that Apple Macbooks with apple-gmux as the gpu switcher no longer had the audio client registering, so when the gpu is powered off by vga_switcheroo snd_hda_intel is unaware that it should have suspended the device: amdgpu: switched off snd_hda_intel 0000:03:00.1: Unable to change power state from D3hot to D0, device inaccessible snd_hda_intel 0000:03:00.1: CORB reset timeout#2, CORBRP = 65535 To resolve this, we use apple_gmux_detect() and register a vga_switcheroo audio client when apple-gmux is detected.
