2024-11-20drm/radeon: Fix spurious unplug event on radeon HDMISteven 'Steve' Kendall
On several HP models (tested on HP 3125 and HP Probook 455 G2), spurious unplug events are emitted upon login on Chrome OS. This is likely due to the way Chrome OS restarts graphics upon login, so it's possible it's an issue on other distributions but not as common, though I haven't reproduced the issue elsewhere. Use logic from an earlier version of the merged change (see link below) which iterates over connectors and finds matching encoders, rather than the other way around. Also fixes an issue with screen mirroring on Chrome OS. I've deployed this patch on Fedora and did not observe any regression on these devices. 2024-11-20drm/radeon: Use ttm_bo_move_null() in radeon_bo_move()Huacai Chen
Since ttm_bo_move_null() is exactly the same as ttm_resource_free() + ttm_bo_assign_mem(), we use ttm_bo_move_null() for the GTT --> SYSTEM move case too. Then the code is more consistent as the SYSTEM --> GTT move case. 2024-10-15drm/radeon: Fix encoder->possible_clonesVille Syrjälä
Include the encoder itself in its possible_clones bitmask. In the past nothing validated that drivers were populating possible_clones correctly, but that changed in commit 74d2aacbe840 ("drm: Validate encoder->possible_clones"). Looks like radeon never got the memo and is still not following the rules 100% correctly. 2024-10-01drm/radeon/r600_cs: Fix possible int overflow in r600_packet3_check()Igor Artemiev
It is possible, although unlikely, that an integer overflow will occur when the result of radeon_get_ib_value() is shifted to the left. Avoid it by casting one of the operands to larger data type (u64). Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with static analysis tool SVACE. 2024-09-26drm/radeon: Run DRM default client setupThomas Zimmermann
Rework fbdev probing to support fbdev_probe in struct drm_driver and remove the old fb_probe callback. Provide an initializer macro for struct drm_driver that sets the callback according to the kernel configuration. Call drm_client_setup() to run the kernel's default client setup for DRM. Set fbdev_probe in struct drm_driver, so that the client setup can start the common fbdev client. The radeon driver specifies a preferred color mode depending on the available video memory, with a default of 32. 2024-08-16drm/radeon/evergreen_cs: fix int overflow errors in cs track offsetsNikita Zhandarovich
Several cs track offsets (such as 'track->db_s_read_offset') either are initialized with or plainly take big enough values that, once shifted 8 bits left, may be hit with integer overflow if the resulting values end up going over u32 limit. Same goes for a few instances of 'surf.layer_size * mslice' multiplications that are added to 'offset' variable - they may potentially overflow as well and need to be validated properly. While some debug prints in this code section take possible overflow issues into account, simply casting to (unsigned long) may be erroneous in its own way, as depending on CPU architecture one is liable to get different results. Fix said problems by: - casting 'offset' to fixed u64 data type instead of ambiguous unsigned long. - casting one of the operands in vulnerable to integer overflow cases to u64. - adjust format specifiers in debug prints to properly represent 'offset' values. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with static analysis tool SVACE. 2024-07-28minmax: make generic MIN() and MAX() macros available everywhereLinus Torvalds
This just standardizes the use of MIN() and MAX() macros, with the very traditional semantics. The goal is to use these for C constant expressions and for top-level / static initializers, and so be able to simplify the min()/max() macros. These macro names were used by various kernel code - they are very traditional, after all - and all such users have been fixed up, with a few different approaches: - trivial duplicated macro definitions have been removed Note that 'trivial' here means that it's obviously kernel code that already included all the major kernel headers, and thus gets the new generic MIN/MAX macros automatically. - non-trivial duplicated macro definitions are guarded with #ifndef This is the "yes, they define their own versions, but no, the include situation is not entirely obvious, and maybe they don't get the generic version automatically" case. - strange use case #1 A couple of drivers decided that the way they want to describe their versioning is with #define MAJ 1 #define MIN 2 #define DRV_VERSION __stringify(MAJ) "." __stringify(MIN) which adds zero value and I just did my Alexander the Great impersonation, and rewrote that pointless Gordian knot as #define DRV_VERSION "1.2" instead. - strange use case #2 A couple of drivers thought that it's a good idea to have a random 'MIN' or 'MAX' define for a value or index into a table, rather than the traditional macro that takes arguments. These values were re-written as C enum's instead. The new function-line macros only expand when followed by an open parenthesis, and thus don't clash with enum use. Happily, there weren't really all that many of these cases, and a lot of users already had the pattern of using '#ifndef' guarding (or in one case just using '#undef MIN') before defining their own private version that does the same thing. 2024-06-05drm/radeon: Remove __counted_by from StateArray.states[]Bill Wendling
Work for __counted_by on generic pointers in structures (not just flexible array members) has started landing in Clang 19 (current tip of tree). During the development of this feature, a restriction was added to __counted_by to prevent the flexible array member's element type from including a flexible array member itself such as: struct foo { int count; char buf[]; }; struct bar { int count; struct foo data[] __counted_by(count); }; because the size of data cannot be calculated with the standard array size formula: sizeof(struct foo) * count This restriction was downgraded to a warning but due to CONFIG_WERROR, it can still break the build. The application of __counted_by on the states member of 'struct _StateArray' triggers this restriction, resulting in: drivers/gpu/drm/radeon/pptable.h:442:5: error: 'counted_by' should not be applied to an array with element of unknown size because 'ATOM_PPLIB_STATE_V2' (aka 'struct _ATOM_PPLIB_STATE_V2') is a struct type with a flexible array member. This will be an error in a future compiler version [-Werror,-Wbounds-safety-counted-by-elt-type-unknown-size] 442 | ATOM_PPLIB_STATE_V2 states[] __counted_by(ucNumEntries); | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1 error generated. 2024-05-17drm/radeon: initialize backlight for iMac12,2 with Radeon 6750MKendall Smith
If a Radeon 6750M GPU from an iMac12,1 is installed into an iMac 12,2, there is no backlight device initialized during boot. Everything else is functional, but the display brightness cannot be controlled. There are no directories present in /sys/class/backlight after booting. A simple one line modification to an if statement fixes this issue by initializing the radeon backlight device for an iMac12,2 as well if it has a 6750M. After the patch, brightness can be controlled and radeon_bl0 is present in /sys/class/backlight. This was tested by compiling the latest kernel with and without the patch. The user who configures a kernel should not need to know which helpers are needed for the driver he is interested in. Making a driver depend on helper code means that the user needs to know which helpers to enable first, which is very user-unfriendly.
