After commit 0edb555a65d1 ("platform: Make platform_driver::remove() return void") .remove() is (again) the right callback to implement for platform drivers. Convert all platform drivers below drivers/net/ethernet to use .remove(), with the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As .remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer. 2024-08-12eth: mvpp2: implement new RSS context APIJakub Kicinski
Implement the separate create/modify/delete ops for RSS. No problems with IDs - even tho RSS tables are per device the driver already seems to allocate IDs linearly per port. There's a translation table from per-port context ID to device context ID. mvpp2 doesn't have a key for the hash, it defaults to an empty/previous indir table. Note that there is no key at all, so we don't have to be concerned with reporting the wrong one (which is addressed by a patch later in the series). Compile-tested only. 2024-08-11net: mvpp2: use device_for_each_child_node() to access device child nodesJavier Carrasco
The iterated nodes are direct children of the device node, and the `device_for_each_child_node()` macro accounts for child node availability. `fwnode_for_each_available_child_node()` is meant to access the child nodes of an fwnode, and therefore not direct child nodes of the device node. The child nodes within mvpp2_probe are not accessed outside the loops, and the scoped version of the macro can be used to automatically decrement the refcount on early exits. Use `device_for_each_child_node()` and its scoped variant to indicate device's direct child nodes. As discussed in [1], there is no need to iterate over child nodes to remove the list of ports. Instead, a loop up to `port_count` ports can be used, and is in fact more reliable in case the child node availability changes. The suggested approach removes the need for the `fwnode` and `port_fwnode` variables in mvpp2_remove() as well. This function has a nested loop. The problem is that both the inside and outside loop use the same variable as an iterator. I found this via static analysis so I'm not sure the impact. It could be that it loops forever or, more likely, the loop exits early. 2024-07-15net: Add struct kernel_ethtool_ts_infoKory Maincent
In prevision to add new UAPI for hwtstamp we will be limited to the struct ethtool_ts_info that is currently passed in fixed binary format through the ETHTOOL_GET_TS_INFO ethtool ioctl. It would be good if new kernel code already started operating on an extensible kernel variant of that structure, similar in concept to struct kernel_hwtstamp_config vs struct hwtstamp_config. Since struct ethtool_ts_info is in include/uapi/linux/ethtool.h, here we introduce the kernel-only structure in include/linux/ethtool.h. The manual copy is then made in the function called by ETHTOOL_GET_TS_INFO. 2023-12-14net: mvpp2: add support for miiStefan Eichenberger
Currently, mvpp2 only supports RGMII. This commit adds support for MII. The description in Marvell's functional specification seems to be wrong. To enable MII, we need to set GENCONF_CTRL0_PORT3_RGMII, while for RGMII we need to clear it. This is also how U-Boot handles it. 2023-12-13net: ethtool: pass a pointer to parameters to get/set_rxfh ethtool opsAhmed Zaki
The get/set_rxfh ethtool ops currently takes the rxfh (RSS) parameters as direct function arguments. This will force us to change the API (and all drivers' functions) every time some new parameters are added. This is part 1/2 of the fix, as suggested in [1]: - First simplify the code by always providing a pointer to all params (indir, key and func); the fact that some of them may be NULL seems like a weird historic thing or a premature optimization. It will simplify the drivers if all pointers are always present. - Then make the functions take a dev pointer, and a pointer to a single struct wrapping all arguments. `strncpy` is deprecated for use on NUL-terminated destination strings [1] and as such we should prefer more robust and less ambiguous string interfaces. 2023-09-20net: ethernet: marvell: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers are converted, .remove_new() is renamed to .remove(). Trivially convert these drivers from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. 2023-07-27net: Explicitly include correct DT includesRob Herring
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. NVMEM layouts are no longer registered early, and thus may not yet be available when Ethernet drivers (or any other consumer) probe, leading to possible probe deferrals errors. Forward the error code if this happens. A summary of the flags being set for various drivers is given below. Note that XDP_F_REDIRECT_TARGET and XDP_F_FRAG_TARGET are features that can be turned off and on at runtime. This means that these flags may be set and unset under RTNL lock protection by the driver. Hence, READ_ONCE must be used by code loading the flag value. Also, these flags are not used for synchronization against the availability of XDP resources on a device. It is merely a hint, and hence the read may race with the actual teardown of XDP resources on the device. 2022-11-29net: mvpp2: Consider NVMEM cells as possible MAC address sourceMiquel Raynal
The ONIE standard describes the organization of tlv (type-length-value) arrays commonly stored within NVMEM devices on common networking hardware. Several drivers already make use of NVMEM cells for purposes like retrieving a default MAC address provided by the manufacturer. What made ONIE tables unusable so far was the fact that the information where "dynamically" located within the table depending on the manufacturer wishes, while Linux NVMEM support only allowed statically defined NVMEM cells. Fortunately, this limitation was eventually tackled with the introduction of discoverable cells through the use of NVMEM layouts, making it possible to extract and consistently use the content of tables like ONIE's tlv arrays. Parsing this table at runtime in order to get various information is now possible. So, because many Marvell networking switches already follow this standard, let's consider using NVMEM cells as a new valid source of information when looking for a base MAC address, which is one of the primary uses of these new fields. Indeed, manufacturers following the ONIE standard are encouraged to provide a default MAC address there, so let's eventually use it if no other MAC address has been found using the existing methods. 2022-10-03net: mvpp2: fix mvpp2 debugfs leakRussell King (Oracle)
When mvpp2 is unloaded, the driver specific debugfs directory is not removed, which technically leads to a memory leak. However, this directory is only created when the first device is probed, so the hardware is present. Removing the module is only something a developer would to when e.g. testing out changes, so the module would be reloaded. So this memory leak is minor. The original attempt in commit fe2c9c61f668 ("net: mvpp2: debugfs: fix memory leak when using debugfs_lookup()") that was labelled as a memory leak fix was not, it fixed a refcount leak, but in doing so created a problem when the module is reloaded - the directory already exists, but mvpp2_root is NULL, so we lose all debugfs entries. This fix has been reverted. This is the alternative fix, where we remove the offending directory whenever the driver is unloaded. But when there is a failover, the bond active interface will change, thus the PHC index is also changed. This may break the user's program if they did not update the PHC timely. This patch adds a new hwtstamp_config flag HWTSTAMP_FLAG_BONDED_PHC_INDEX. When the user wants to get the bond active interface's PHC, they need to add this flag and be aware the PHC index may be changed. With the new flag. All flag checks in current drivers are removed.
