2024-11-11kselftest/arm64: Fix printf() warning in the arm64 MTE prctl() testCatalin Marinas
While prctl() returns an 'int', the PR_MTE_TCF_MASK is defined as unsigned long which results in the larger type following a bitwise 'and' operation. Cast the printf() argument to 'int'. 2024-11-01kselftest/arm64: Use ksft_perror() to log MTE failuresMark Brown
The logging in the allocation helpers variously uses ksft_print_msg() with very intermittent logging of errno and perror() (which won't produce KTAP conformant output) when logging the result of API calls that set errno. Standardise on using the ksft_perror() helper in these cases so that more information is available should the tests fail. 2024-10-17kselftest/arm64: mte: fix printf type warnings about longsAndre Przywara
When checking MTE tags, we print some diagnostic messages when the tests fail. Some variables uses there are "longs", however we only use "%x" for the format specifier. Update the format specifiers to "%lx", to match the variable types they are supposed to print. 2024-10-17kselftest/arm64: mte: fix printf type warnings about pointersAndre Przywara

2024-10-17kselftest/arm64: mte: fix printf type warnings about __u64Andre Przywara
When printing the signal context's PC, we use a "%lx" format specifier, which matches the common userland (glibc's) definition of uint64_t as an "unsigned long". However the structure in question is defined in a kernel uapi header, which uses a self defined __u64 type, and the arm64 kernel headers define this using "int-ll64.h", so it becomes an "unsigned long long". This mismatch leads to the usual compiler warning. The common fix would be to use "PRIx64", but because this is defined by the userland's toolchain libc headers, it wouldn't match as well. Since we know the exact type of __u64, just use "%llx" here instead, to silence this warning. This also fixes a more severe typo: "$lx" is not a valid format specifier. 2024-10-17kselftest/arm64: mte: use string literal for printf-style functionsAndre Przywara
Using pointers for the format specifier strings in printf-style functions can create potential security problems, as the number of arguments to be parsed could vary from call to call. Most compilers consequently warn about those: "format not a string literal and no format arguments [-Wformat-security]" If we only want to print a constant string, we can just use a fixed "%s" format instead, and pass the string as an argument. 2024-10-17kselftest/arm64: mte: use proper SKIP syntaxAndre Przywara
If MTE is not available on a system, we detect this early and skip all the MTE selftests. However this happens before we print the TAP plan, so tools parsing the TAP output get confused and report an error. Use the existing ksft_exit_skip() function to handle this, which uses a dummy plan to work with tools expecting proper TAP syntax, as described in the TAP specification. 2023-01-20kselftest/arm64: Support build of MTE tests with clangMark Brown
The assembly portions of the MTE selftests need to be built with a toolchain supporting MTE. Since we support GCC versions that lack MTE support we have logic to suppress build of these tests when using such a toolchain but that logic is broken for LLVM=1 builds, it uses CC but CC is only set for LLVM builds in libs.mk which needs to be included after we have selected which test programs to build. Since all supported LLVM versions support MTE we can simply assume MTE support when LLVM is set. This is not a thing of beauty but it does the job. 2022-09-29kselftest/arm64: Don't enable v8.5 for MTE selftest buildsMark Brown
Currently we set -march=armv8.5+memtag when building the MTE selftests, allowing the compiler to emit v8.5 and MTE instructions for anything it generates. This means that we may get code that will generate SIGILLs when run on older systems rather than skipping on non-MTE systems as should be the case. Most toolchains don't select any incompatible instructions but I have seen some reports which suggest that some may be appearing which do so. This is also potentially problematic in that if the compiler chooses to emit any MTE instructions for the C code it may interfere with the MTE usage we are trying to test. Since the only reason we are specifying this option is to allow us to assemble MTE instructions in mte_helper.S we can avoid these issues by moving to using a .arch directive there and adding the -march explicitly to the toolchain support check instead of the generic CFLAGS. Since it is not clear why we are rejecting zero tags change the test to accept them. 2022-02-15kselftest/arm64: mte: user_mem: test a wider range of valuesJoey Gouly
Instead of hard coding a small amount of tests, generate a wider range of tests to try catch any corner cases that could show up. These new tests test different MTE tag lengths and offsets, which previously would have caused infinite loops in the kernel. This was fixed by 295cf156231c ("arm64: Avoid premature usercopy failure"), so these are regressions tests for that corner case. 2022-02-15kselftest/arm64: mte: user_mem: introduce tag_offset and tag_lenJoey Gouly
These can be used to place an MTE tag at an address that is not at a page size boundary. The kernel prior to 295cf156231c ("arm64: Avoid premature usercopy failure"), would infinite loop if an MTE tag was placed not at a PAGE_SIZE boundary. This is because the kernel checked if the pages were readable by checking the first byte of each page, but would then fault in the middle of the page due to the MTE tag. 2022-02-15kselftest/arm64: Remove local definitions of MTE prctlsMark Brown

2021-03-24kselftest/arm64: mte: Makefile: Fix clang compilationAndre Przywara
When clang finds a header file on the command line, it wants to precompile that, which would end up in a separate output file. Specifying -o on that same command line collides with that effort, so the compiler complains: clang: error: cannot specify -o when generating multiple output files Since we are not really after a precompiled header, just drop the header file from the command line, by removing it from the list of source files in the Makefile. 2021-03-24kselftest/arm64: mte: Output warning about failing compilerAndre Przywara
At the moment we check the compiler's ability to compile MTE enabled code, but guard all the Makefile rules by it. As a consequence a broken or not capable compiler just doesn't do anything, and make happily returns without any error message, but with no programs created. Since the MTE feature is only supported by recent aarch64 compilers (not all stable distro compilers support it), having an explicit message seems like a good idea. 2021-03-24kselftest/arm64: mte: Fix MTE feature detectionAndre Przywara
To check whether the CPU and kernel support the MTE features we want to test, we use an (emulated) CPU ID register read. However we only check against a very particular feature version (0b0010), even though the ARM ARM promises ID register features to be backwards compatible. While this could be fixed by using ">=" instead of "==", we should actually use the explicit HWCAP2_MTE hardware capability, exposed by the kernel via the ELF auxiliary vectors. That moves this responsibility to the kernel, and fixes running the tests on machines with FEAT_MTE3 capability. 2021-03-23kselftest/arm64: mte: Fix compilation with native compilerAndre Przywara
The mte selftest Makefile contains a check for GCC, to add the memtag -march flag to the compiler options. This check fails if the compiler is not explicitly specified, so reverts to the standard "cc", in which case --version doesn't mention the "gcc" string we match against: $ cc --version | head -n 1 cc (Ubuntu 9.3.0-17ubuntu1~20.04) 9.3.0 This will not add the -march switch to the command line, so compilation fails: mte_helper.S: Assembler messages: mte_helper.S:25: Error: selected processor does not support `irg x0,x0,xzr' mte_helper.S:38: Error: selected processor does not support `gmi x1,x0,xzr' ...
