2024-10-30drm/i915/power: convert assert_chv_phy_status() to struct intel_displayJani Nikula
struct intel_display will replace struct drm_i915_private as the main device pointer for display code. Switch assert_chv_phy_status() and its callers to it. Main motivation to do just one function is to stop passing i915 to intel_de_wait(), so its generic wrapper can be removed. 2024-09-23drm/i915/pps: split intel_pps_reset_all() to vlv and bxt variantsJani Nikula
The intel_pps_reset_all() function does similar but not quite the same things for VLV/CHV and BXT/GLK. Observe that it's called from platform specific code only, and a split to two functions vlv_pps_reset_all() and bxt_pps_reset_all() is natural. Remove the platform checks and warnings from the functions. We don't usually have them, unless we're unsure. To make this easier to reason about for BXT/GLK, change the condition on caller side from "!PCH" to "BXT || GLK". 2024-03-07drm/i915: Use pw_idx to derive PHY for ICL_LANE_ENABLE_AUX overrideVille Syrjälä
We don't actually know whether we should be picking the PHY simply based on the AUX_CH/power well, or based on the VBT defined AUX_CH->DDI->PHY relationship. At the moment we are doing the former for the ANAOVRD workaround, and the latter for the ICL_LANE_ENABLE_AUX override. Windows seems to use the first approach for everything. So let's unify this to follow that same approach for both. Eventually we should try to figure out which is actually correct, or whether any of this even matters (ie. whether there are any real machines where the DDI and its AUX_CH do not match 1:1). Note that this also changes the behaviour if we do end up poking an AUX power well not associated with any port (as per VBT). Previously we would have skipped the PHY register write, but now we always write it. 2024-02-29drm/i915: Don't explode when the dig port we don't have an AUX CHVille Syrjälä
The icl+ power well code currently assumes that every AUX power well maps to an encoder which is using said power well. That is by no menas guaranteed as we: - only register encoders for ports declared in the VBT - combo PHY HDMI-only encoder no longer get an AUX CH since commit 9856308c94ca ("drm/i915: Only populate aux_ch if really needed") However we have places such as intel_power_domains_sanitize_state() that blindly traverse all the possible power wells. So these bits of code may very well encounbter an aux power well with no associated encoder. In this particular case the BIOS seems to have left one AUX power well enabled even though we're dealing with a HDMI only encoder on a combo PHY. We then proceed to turn off said power well and explode when we can't find a matching encoder. As a short term fix we should be able to just skip the PHY related parts of the power well programming since we know this situation can only happen with combo PHYs. Another option might be to go back to always picking an AUX CH for all encoders. However I'm a bit wary about that since we might in theory end up conflicting with the VBT AUX CH assignment. Also that wouldn't help with encoders not declared in the VBT, should we ever need to poke the corresponding power wells. Longer term we need to figure out what the actual relationship is between the PHY vs. AUX CH vs. AUX power well. Currently this is entirely unclear. Later on we also added the same type of support with squash and crawling with commit 25e0e5ae5610 ("drm/i915/display: Do both crawl and squash when changing cdclk"), commit d4a23930490d ("drm/i915: Allow cdclk squasher to be reconfigured live") and commit d62686ba3b54 ("drm/i915/adl_p: CDCLK crawl support for ADL"). 2023-03-06drm/i915/power: move dc state members to struct i915_power_domainsJani Nikula
There's only one reference to the struct intel_dmc members dc_state, target_dc_state, and allowed_dc_mask within intel_dmc.c, begging the question why they are under struct intel_dmc to begin with. Moreover, the only references to i915->display.dmc outside of intel_dmc.c are to these members. They don't belong. Move them from struct intel_dmc to struct i915_power_domains, which seems like a more suitable place. 2023-02-17drm/i915: s/PIPECONF/TRANSCONF/Ville Syrjälä
Rename PIPECONF to TRANSCONF to make it clear what it actually applies to. While the usual convention is to pick the earliers name I think in this case it's more clear to use the later name. Especially as even the register offset is in the wrong range (0x70000 vs. 0x60000) and thus makes it look like this is per-pipe. There is one place in gvt that's doing something with TRANSCONF while iterating with for_each_pipe(). So that might not be doing the right thing for TRANSCODER_EDP, dunno. Not knowing what it does I left it as is to avoid breakage. 2023-02-14drm/i915: Consult the registered encoders for the ICL combo PHY w/aVille Syrjälä
Display WA #1178 calls us to tweak some magic bits when doing AUX to an external combo PHY port. Instead of looking to see if the VBT has declared such a port (which could in theory even alias with a declared eDP port on the same PHY) just check the real situation based on the registered encoders. The only slight chicken vs. egg situation here is during output probing. But typically we'd register the eDP ports first and so once we get to probe anything external on the combo PHY we have already determined if it's eDP or not. 2022-10-26drm/i915/tgl+: Sanitize DKL PHY register definitionsImre Deak
Not all Dekel PHY registers have a lane instance, so having to specify this when using them is awkward. It makes more sense to define each PHY register with its full internal PHY offset where bits 15:12 is the lane for lane-instanced PHY registers and just a register bank index for other PHY registers. This way lane-instanced registers can be referred to with the (tc_port, lane) parameters, while other registers just with a tc_port parameter. An additional benefit of this change is to prevent passing a Dekel register to a generic MMIO access function or vice versa. v2: - Fix parameter reuse in the DKL_REG_MMIO definition. v3: - Rebase on latest patchset version. 2022-10-26drm/i915/tgl+: Add locking around DKL PHY register accessesImre Deak
Accessing the TypeC DKL PHY registers during modeset-commit, -verification, DP link-retraining and AUX power well toggling is racy due to these code paths being concurrent and the PHY register bank selection register (HIP_INDEX_REG) being shared between PHY instances (aka TC ports) and the bank selection being not atomic wrt. the actual PHY register access. Add the required locking around each PHY register bank selection-> register access sequence. Kudos to Ville for noticing the race conditions. v2: - Add the DKL PHY register accessors to intel_dkl_phy.[ch]. (Jani) - Make the DKL_REG_TC_PORT macro independent of PHY internals. - Move initing the DKL PHY lock to a more logical place. v3: - Fix parameter reuse in the DKL_REG_TC_PORT definition. - Document the usage of phy_lock. v4: - Fix adding TC_PORT_1 offset in the DKL_REG_TC_PORT definition.
